I put collector plates on my 650. It's a 1 time fee of ~$75 in WA, no tabs, no tab renewal, no other fees for the life of the bike and you get a "custom" collectors plate! :woohoo:

Never had vanity plates, don't see the sense in paying... and feel the same way other have mentioned! What I don't pay the state and feds enough in taxes? At least the bike is old enuf... needs to be 32YO here, to get these plates and it's not supposed to be a "daily driver". (yea, whatever!)

Now, if they (govt in general) were smarter with their spending and didn't waste MY MONEY on many things, they can ask for more. But as it stands now, why give more if all I see is waste? Does anyone know what it REALLY means to BALANCE A BUDGET anymore? I give you X dollars and that's all you get to spend. What, you need more? NO!!! Make due with what you have and don't threaten me to get more. PERIOD, end of conversation! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! (danm greedy b@stards!!!) (reminder: who is the bottom of this food chain? You and I, the working class!)

Wank Plates here start at @$300 and can run into the $1000's - no renewal i dont think.
Have seen boat anchor ones for $3000 - fucking ridiculous.I prefer to blend in with the crowd if possible.
Last time i replaced a random one it was $13 .Almost got ZR 738 by pure luck.
Mate had 666 EG - he had a 1973 Electra Glide and it appears Satan was the owner
Luckily KZB2, we always get a renewal notice at least a month before registration costs are due - thats tough mate
$221 AUD a year - (single seat ) i can handle that :)

I was very disappointed to find out vintage plates are not available for motorcycles here in Utah, only cars. It seems unfair as older motorcycles are far less likely to be used for everyday transport and activities which are seen as abuse of the system. When I bought my 73 Triumph TR7V Tiger in the October of 2012 it was the perfect age in 2013 (40 years) for a Vintage registration, so I was disillusioned to discover at the DMV it was all going to be much more costly than originally planned and every year after that too. At some point the age changed to 30 years not 40 (or may be it was a fixed year originally?) so my 82 CJ jeep is eligible, but not my motorcycles.

I think the personalized plates are still fairly cheap here $75 initially and thereafter the same as normal plates to keep them, but as they are seen as a luxury, no doubt it won't be long before someone sees an additional revenue stream there.

And I thought $79 a year was bad. Before it was $64 and going down, I didn't non op it so the clock started again. :angry: Damn left hanging state. :angry: :angry: :angry:

We don't have any reduction in fees over 10 years in age, so you pay the same for a 2006 as a 1926, which seems silly to me as one is still a very usable bike which could be used everyday, long tours etc. whereas the much older bike is just something that mainly gets wheeled out for "high days and holidays" - unless you are Swest :)

At least the sunshine's still free in CA, for now, until they figure out you are stealing energy from solar panels by enjoying it shining on your face and it keeping you warm :)

In Montana, any vehicle over 11 years old you can buy permanent tags for, for the price of 2 or 3 years fees.

As for personal plates in Arizona, I was going to do this but they want $40 extra per year for them. Didn't happen.

LMAO!...Sunshine FREE here in California??? Hell NO it ain't! Move on over and you'll see very quickly how much we pay in KWH for all the gargantuan solar and windfarms they're cluttering up the open desert areas and mountains alike with. That's a direct reason that SDG&E increased our KWH last summer from .165 p/kwh to .290 p/kwh! Last month was still .265 p/kwh. At least here in S.D. County....................................Mike

Here in Ontario you can get what they call Year Of Manufacture plates. The deal is you find an old plate on eBay or somewhere that matches the year of manufacture of your scooter and so across the top of your plate it says ONT 1970 (or whatever). Plus they usually changed the colour combination every year back in those days so your plate would be quite distinctive. Which is kinda cool Only problem (for me) is that in 1976 they went to the system where the licence plate has no year embossed on it you just get a sticker every year to stick on the plate. Bastards.

That's usually my experience a dollar short and a year too late, I've had so many things change in my lifetime where if only I'd been a year older or younger it would have been a big advantage. There really aren't many concessions made for the collector/hobby motorcyclist only doing a few miles on a classic bike. Value wise I get a lot more miles/use and overall enjoyment out of my newer bikes per $ spent on license taxes and insurance than I do from my 3 classic bikes.

Yup. Between licence and insurance I'll pay probably ~$600/yr to putter around on my scooter. So roughly $1 per mile give or take.

Insurance is what cracks me up the most. I have a car and 1 bike. They charge me X for my car and add Y for my bike. Just how in the f*ck am I supposed to drive them both at once and therfore increase their risk? To be clear I'm only talking about liability insurance not theft fire etc.
