Early 70's Yoshimura factory-backed race bike:

Unfortunately, this is the only picture I have of it. I am looking for any and all information you might know about it. Engine cc's, carb/cams/wheels/exhaust specs. Any additional pictures, who rode it (Wes Cooley?), what years did it race, any tidbits you could give me will be beneficial.

Thanks!

Hey Leon, thanks for the pic! Where'd you find it at? I searched for close to half an hour and couldn't dig up a thing.

I'd say that's definitely more of a "tribute" than a replica. That has to be a completely custom exhaust system, look how smooth the bends are.

From outward appearances, it looks like the Yosh Z1 race bike uses the stock 4-4 pipes, maybe Poppa Yosh made a one-off 4-4 system for the pic you found. The headers flow nicely, reminds me of the new hand-bent Yoshi pipes (shop.yoshimura-jp.com/en/product/syousai.php?id=195). Actually, the more I look at the picture, it looks like a Yoshimura booth! There's a big banner in the background!!!

I really like the helmet painted to match!

are u sure this is not a replica? it seems odd to have stock brakes , shock location, and forks on a racer ?? the brake peddle would drag as well.
Muzzey used a stock exhaust, and gutted the interior .
It was common to see hand bent pipes back then, since they had to do everything themselves. They would have dif pipes for dif tracks.

I'll put my vote in for a plastic model. It's a very very good model, but there are a few things that give it away to me. Look at the fins on the jugs. The fins seem awfully thick in comparison to the gaps. Next is the the forks. Look where the fork seal intersects with the chrome fork tube. It looks to me, like the black paint extends up onto the fork tube. Also the chrome on the tubes seems a little dull. Like silver model paint. Finally, the wheels. At first I thought they were Lesters, but look at the spokes. The facotory Enkeis weren't around yet in the Z1 days, were they? Did Kawasaki ever offer the 18" Enkei rear wheels with a drum brake? Very convincing, but I'm betting it's 1/10" scale.

Isn't it sitting inside of an opened spiral notebook?
