What? I wouldn't use that chain on your bike. :woohoo:  What you need to do is lube everything that moves. That means taking it apart, cleaning it, lubing it with the proper media and put it back together. That chain is trash. I wouldn't have my life depending on something like that!

Ha ya. Guy tried moving it to my truck and kept hitting the damn shifter thinking it was in gear, but the chain was just so rusted. Had to tell him. Once it started banging around in the back of the truck, it eased up and can now move freely. I like JT sprockets and chains so I'll buy a set there. I have a parts list written up. Hopefully I'll get it started by Friday.

My bike sat for 15 years waiting for me. I had no money to spend on it so I started cleaning, painting and polishing parts that hadn't been touched for 20 years. I got the money together and went through the bike wheel bearings on up. My neighbors thought it would never run again. It did run, just not well. I'd fire it up from time to time. The jerk next door would rev his boat when I was working on the bike. One day he was being his jerk self, I started it, rode by and waved, did a burn out and took off. He was muttering something when I came back and parked Bossie in the shed. I heard his friend say "I thought you said It'l never run?"" F'em!" :woohoo: Was he mad.
F'HIM.

Anyone know the bolt sizes for the engine sprocket bolt and valve bolts? I have to stop by Gabor freight cuz my tools are out of state with my other bike.

The engine sprocket is a 27mm, and one hell of a bitch to get. If by valve bolts you mean the caps that you remove to adjust the valves, they are 27mm as well. The rest of the bolts on the engine are 10 and 12 mm. You will need a 17mm and 14mm if you plan on removing the engine from the frame.

PO said they cleaned the carbs...and the actually did! But one had a ripped diaphragm. Looks like I'll add it to the parts list.

Also seems to be a problem with the carbs.

That is a bummer man. Ebay has sets of new ones for like $60. There are some pretty in depth write ups about what brands or sellers are good and which ones to stay far away from at kz400.

Just some pics. Thought I'd post them for the photo inclined. The rip in the diaphragm is going to be a problem. They are expensive. Might trade the carbs for something else. Any alternative carbs that would be good on this?

Also don't know what's wrong with that arm on the carb noted above but I guess I'll put it back in its path. Looks like the engine was taken out of the frame for something and unoriginal gasket on the valves so def going to deal with that.
