Fully submerse them in Pine sol though because when exposed to the air it dries and leaves a funky layer that is harder to clean off. I bought a couple big jugs off of amazon, put everything in a big tub and let them soak, even threw in some other grimey bits and the oil cooler lines which shined up nice

Pine sol has worked for me in the past.
There was a air box for a kz900 on craigs list for 250.00 it's gone now and it looked different then a kz1000 air box

wiredgeorge says a Z1 air box substitutes very nicely in a KZ900 (may need a little support at bottom).

The stock KZ900 carb is probably one of the most user-friendly carbs ever, and it's not too lean either because it pre-dates the EPA regulations.

I'm no fan of pods, but the stock KZ900 carb would likely accommodate pods as well as any carb out there.

Good Fortune! :)

Bike already has the air box, definitely plan on using it as well.... As mentioned, keeping stock as much as possible in this build.

I sent an e-mail to Rick @ OldSkoolCarbs to see what can be done with these or preferably, if he has a set already re-built. I'm being cautious where due to the slides being tarnished, gunked up, stuck, the passages have to be blocked as well with this gook/crap build up inside these bodies.

Anyhoot, absolutely no rush on this build, take my time and enjoy the fun of putting her back on the road.

Thanks for the tips....

This way of cleaning the pilot circuit works well for me.

Would also take pains to assure that the overflow circuits are clean and clear.

In order to gain more storage space under the seat, I run my KZ900 with the intake silencer tube removed from the air-box.

If the intake silencer tube came with the bike, hang on to it as they are getting hard to find, and usually priced accordingly.

After reading about the effects of Pine sol on aluminum carburetors on a sohc forum and other places including simple greens webb site, I would be very careful with using it or simple green on any parts that I didn't mind losing some of the metal surface , both products are very corrosive and need to cleaned off completely and the aluminum coated with something to prevent oxidation from starting.
I think soaking carbs in ether product for a long time and not being able to supper clean them afterward would be a big mistake.
