Know I am kinda digging up an older thread but wanted to say nice job on the 440, I have one and loving mine. I have the stock buckhorn bars though and really not a fan. What are the bars you had on it before you changed over to the clubman? Thats exactly what I have been thinking of and wanting. Do you still have them and might they be for sale or anything, or can point me in the right direction? Love the sound of the Mac pipes, thanks for posting up those videos!!!

Hey thanks, sadly my engine rebuild didn't go so good, but hopefully, I'll get back at it soon. I recently moved and just haven't had time or energy to work on the 440.

I put the bars that were on the 440 on my 750. They are bikemaster superbike bars. You can find them on amazon for like $20.

sucks about your motor. That's frustrating as hell.
I do want to extend them a few inches so I can have a more stock look, but I need to find someone who knows how to weld first.
if you're in the San Diego area, I can help you out with that. wouldn't even need your bike, can just mock it up on my 440. :cheer:

I have an extra sitting in the garage so an engine swap should get me back on track when I find the energy.

I'm located right in the middle of Kansas, a bit far from San Diego lol.

I finally got all moved into the new house, and got some nice cool weather, so started tearing into the engine again. I need to replace either the stud at the end of the crank or the entire crank. I will worry about that later. Right now I am stripping the engine back down and working to split the cases hopefully to figure out why it locked up on me.

The engine is stuck, removed the top end, and it is still stuck so it wasn't the rings. I'm going to split the cases hopefully tonight. Any ideas or thoughts as to what I need to be looking for?

I am guessing that whatever was causing the metal shavings I found during the original tear down is what caused it to seize up.

EDIT

I split the cases, and found that one rod was stuck. I removed the rod and found that the connecting rod bearing was all kinds of messed up. It was obvious that it was the source of all the metal flakes. So, no I am on the hunt for a crank and rods.

I decided that while I wait for parts to get the engine fixed up, I would throw the back up in so I could ride if a few times at least before the weather gets too cold. It only took me a few hours, but I had her up and running today! Will post pictures tomorrow when there is day light.

Took him to work today with no problems. I kind of want to do a more stock look and sound with the exhaust though.

How does she sound at highway speed with the pipes as is? Is that why you want to keep them more stock? Glad to see you are no longer dead in the water!

It sounds good, just loud, obnoxiously loud. I need to fiddle around a bit with the carbs, but I don't think I will be able to get the bike to run right with the less restrictive exhaust unless I rejet, which I don't really want to do.

Basically right now I have a few idle issues, and stuttering around 3000 and 4000 rps. WOT is good, but mid throttle stutters like it is running out of gas. Then the idle will hang every now and then.

I ordered a pair of rods and the pin for the crank. I haven't got a chance to get the work on this bike for awhile, but I am tempted to do the 2 to 1 conversion on this on as well.
