I found this bike locally advertised for $500.
Its a 1988 GPZ750R with the water cooled 16 valve motor and 11500 rev limit.
Its currently not running because of a few years of neglect, its been dropped a couple times at slow speed and has about 48000 miles.
I have not yet seen the bike in person. Its a pretty dry climate here so rust shouldn't be a big deal.
I know I'm in for all the usual old neglected bike issues and a bunch of plastic repairs.

What do you guy's think? ( my KZ1000st looked worse than this one when I bought it)

I'd think carefully about what buying "cheap" and what restoring this would cost, and just how little it is worth even if it were a minter. Sad really how cheap and unwanted some 'unfashionable' late 80's bikes are, like old cars almost.

Whilst the air cooled GPz are all now 'collectable' and the prices are up, the later liquid cooled GPZ, apart from the 900R don't seem to be sought after at all, unlike the early slingshot GSXR's of the same era.

If you really want one, spend weeks searching for a nice one rather than years restoring...just my opinion :)

Tyrrell is right. A mid 80's 900r can easily be found with low mileage and in showroom new condition for $2000 and change the 750s are just about given away. They are not collectable as of yet, but maybe someday. Regardless of that the 4 valve motors of the 80's are not best kawasaki ever built maybe not the worst either, but close.

All that aside if your looking for a project and want that kind of a 750 then go for it, but haggle it down as much as possible. your purchase price could be the cheapest part of that project.
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

I suppose you guy's are right.
It wasn't that long ago that people were giving away air cooled KZ's ( and your KZ1300).
However, I never keep anything long enough for the value to go up (if it were to do so)
and the parts are next to non existent compared to the old KZ's.

I have been looking for a nice 900r, they are a neat bike and right now at least they are pretty cheap for what you get. I don't know much about the 750 version. The bigger bike was made up until 2003 IIRC. The 900's had some issues, the early ones especially and I have no clue if the 750's were any better or any worse.

My 1300 will probably never be worth much, and most people will have no idea what it is. It will never be as hip and trendy as a CBX. Now a days those things are getting pretty expensive. I wouldn't own one though, I helped a guy remove the carburetors from one several years ago and we had to drop the back of the engine down to get them out.... I understand dropping the engine is also the first step in adjusting the valves too :pinch: no thank you.

And for my 2 cents, if someone is selling a 1300 the doesn't run, they should consider paying someone to take it....
