At the very bottom of each carb bowl there is a brass nipple. Those are where the overflow hoses attach. From there. the hoses run toward the rear; right hand side of the engine, and they go through that rubber loop. From there they run down behind the engine between it and the swing arm pivot. They should be long enough to aim down at the ground so any fuel that may overflow goes onto the road instead of the engine. Ed

Nifty little thing that is then. Got it squared away.

I also got the carbs back on but still have the same issue. I can idle but any sort of throttle input the engine bogs down and wants to die, when you release the throttle it will come back to an idle. I'll fiddle around with it some more later on today and report back.

Just replace those carb holders, It's well worth it. I tried to get my originals to seal up with sealant, even cut paper gaskets to try a second time...they still leaked. My friend with a '78 KZ650 did the same, eventually he bought a set of new ones and it made a huge difference it how it ran. So I broke down and bought a set, trust us....its WELL worth it! Don't waste your time messing with the originals.

Or are you referring to the tubes between the airbox and carbs? Replace those too, the new ones are very soft and flexible making it MUCH easier to get the carbs off and on.

Speaking of my friend with the KZ650, he needs a lot of parts if your selling stuff.....PM sent.

Carbs were not getting fuel. Bike runs well now. Idles GREAT. Throttle response at idle is GREAT all through the rpm. It does rev up a little with choke so I may move up one size on the pilot.

Bike runs, but under heavier throttle it seems to lose power, runs better if you back the throttle down a little bit.

Still no filters on it though so ill test it again when the new K&Ns come in before changing any jetting.

All my cylinders look like the plug on the right except #2 which is the plug on the left.

New K&N filters came in. Also I was going to lower the needle clip one slot when I noticed that the slides were not at all the same height, so I used the wire method mentioned in the clymers manual. I figured since they were all so low that now being in spec the needles will sit higher so I left the clip alone.

Still seems like it wants choke to idle, but once I get the filters on ill know for sure if I need a bigger pilot.

Ok so I think I need to go one bigger on the pilot and one bigger on the main. Putting the filters on helped a bunch, but it still wants to bog down if you give it too much throttle. Less throttle is faster still at this point. Might need one clip down on the needles after all. That will put me in the bottom clip.

Jets are on their way. 17.5 pilot set and 105 and 107.5 main sets. Should help get me back close. Ill probably have to go bigger on the main once I get the 4-1 exhaust.

So after a considerable amount of staring at, and trying different things to achieve the cafe tail/seat look I want, I believe I found a way to use the original rear fender (the duck), as a tail/seat pan combo. This way I can keep the dinged and weathered tank as it will match the tail. It will get repaired and painted one day when the frame gets new powder, but that is down the line.

I am gathering materials to make the seat cushion, so that should be done shortly.

PURIST ALERT

I appreciate you reading my build thread but this I where it gets nasty. If you are a purist, proceed with caution.

Thank you for reading.

Ok let's see what has happened recently. I have the rear fender bolted to the frame and for a free seat pan/cowl it doesn't look too bad.

Here it is on the bike with the prospect cut line. As the angle of the fender changes, I need to make a small cut to keep the straight body line.

And here is the fender after the cut, with prospect frame cut line taped off.

Here is just a quick shot showing where the fender mounts on the battery brace.

Next on the list is:
finish and foam/cover the seat
Fab up new side covers
LED brake/turns
And some sort of headlight upgrade...I have flashlights 5x brighter than this!

New jets go in soon, and still on the hunt for a 4-1 exhaust or even a header that I can fab a v-band and mini megaphone muffler onto. Minimalist's exhaust.
