Hopefully the last update prior to painting this sucker! Hopefully tonight the frame will again be all black, and I can finish up the last few details as the paint is drying.

Sprockets:

With huge thanks to Leon, I now have all the pieces to the front sprocket puzzle. Leaving the sprocket ring loose on the shaft it made it super easy to set the offset exactly where the chain wanted to ride.

Marked it, will cut it down and weld it while the frame is drying.

After mocking everything up I was concerned I'd have to notch the frame but after a little work on the rear sprocket carrier I think it might be okay. It's still close, but there is a good 3-4 mm clear on either side of the chain. I guess I can always notch the frame if it really starts rubbing..

Uncut sprocket carrier:

In Process:

Almost done:

Back on the bike: (you can tell by the studs how much was removed)

Frame/Swingarm Clearance

Alignment:

The camera kind of distorts this, it's actually pretty dead nuts straight. Allowing the wheel to turn and the front sprocket to center itself I'm confident it's going to wear good.

Looks good. Don't forget the clearance at the lower foot peg mount.

Maybe you don't have the case on the 650, but the 900 has threaded bungs on the inside of the frame that the foot peg studs screw into. My chain is really close to the lower bung, but with enough clearance.

Sorry, I used the little winky smiley face to translate me being a smart ass to attempted sarcasm. The bung is there on my frame, and it's right in the way. I had already taken off the jamb nut and cut back the threads to be flush with the bung prior to final fitting this morning. It was still pretty close so I ground it most of the way down and plug welded the back of the stud since I'm still using it for my rear set brackets. :)

I had to remove the nut and cut the stud flush at that location on my MKII frame for chain clearance. Not sure about the 650 frames....

No riding the kz yet. It is much less likely to rust (the frame is painted), but I spent most of my "allotted time" tweaking the chain alignment and ended up having to settle for riding a Suzuki this past weekend... :P
