I was sitting here at the pc and thought lets see whats on craigs list. Found this ELR listed about an hour or so before and my heart started pounding. Couple emails and a phone call the next morning and I had it home by lunch! Thanks Trianglelaguna for making me look at that all the time. Im no good at posting pictures so here is link to my photobucket. s845.photobucket.com/albums/ab17/JustZ/

Oh man ...you did it...you got you sefff a 81 ELR...SEE IT HAPPENS!!!!

I called my girl over to show her your pics(so really you just did me a favor :) )I am overflowing with bikes in my small work area and she has laid down the no more bikes for now rule....i explained that some room for adjustments needs to be left open for things like you just found....showing her your pics ,she gets it now...

My two dreams are that i find either a ELR getting posted or a era superbike leftover...I am minutes from Seca so i really think i may find a barn find Superbike Z-1 or later covered in dust for 500....i found a nice MKII for 500 so i believe i will find a racer left abandoned...i can feel it...

Good for you...

now you know everyone wants to know...what was he asking and what did it sell for...

great score...

one of the best KZR scores of 2010 and with only a few days left in the yr...Congrats...the Holy Grail

yours is in better shape and this one cost about the same....if i remember right...plus it was not a 81

What I done in the last few days is clean up front master cylinder and repaint. Take bs34 carbs off rebuild strip clean and paint. put a new battery in and fresh oil. Then did a compression test and on a cold engine got 100 psi on 1-4 and 80 on two and three. First I will retork head and cheack vavle addjustments. before i go tearing head off. A question I have about the carbs is these are bs34 and the bike did not come with an air cleaner. Has pods and the needle looks like it might be stage three set up cause it has no numbers. 40 pilot jets and the mains where 130 if i remember right. My question is how do I hook up vacum lines. If this set up doesnt work I do have a set of 29 mm smooth bores that would work but kinda saving those for another bike.

Z-1 enterprises also sells a spin on petcock "adapter plate" that eliminates the need for that vacum petcock..which can suck and be a hassle as well as leak...i'm told.....whether that could be used with bs34 i do not know...but for sure would get rid of the sucky vacum petcock...they have a 15 dollar pingle copy type on/off petcock and of course the high flow pingle on/off...

whats that your thinking???:P :P :P

why yes some super expensive CR 31 smoothbores would rip and look Damn good on that beauty...nice choice :cheer:

purists...what purists ...i do hope you bought that to rip on....

bummer about the compression first readings but to be expected i guess if the P.O had whipped that thing,it looks a tad ignored

better not put anymore money into it and save your hassles by selling it to me......I just wanna help out...

Vacuum nipples should be capped (plugged) unless used for a specific purpose such as a hose connected to a vacuum operated petcock, or other purpose such as smog reduction paraphernalia (which has often already been removed and discarded).

Basically, any unused vacuum nipple is supposed to be capped. B)
If not capped, usually results in a relatively massive intake air leak. :pinch:

Contrast to float bowl VENT nipples which exit to open air usually via hoses routed to beneath the seat or underneath the bike.

Good Fortune! :)

your bike and my 81 J-standard share some parts...and share them with other models...

this link...when you click on a part ...then click on that part number..then three screens later click the yellow circled ? mark in that's parts info...

and it will drop down all models that share that same bolt..washer...part ect...

here is the link to your yr
