After 17 months, I have finally completed my resto/clone, so I thought I'd show off a bit... A slow build, but I started with a bunch of nothing. Here's my original post from Dec 08 kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...=11&id=254231#254231

It's tough to see, but the paint is white pearl on white basecoat. Just enough pearl to set it off, (nothing like pearl on Lexus cars). I had a bit of help on the clear coat, but damn.. the paint looks like i was poured on and still wet!! Hope everyone likes what I've done.

Here's a link if you want to click on the huge pics I uploaded www.bikepics.com/members/dardoonk/82gpz1100/

Well if you're going to show off a bit, you should let them see your other super clean ride.

Thanks for the props guys.. Glad you like what I've done. Sorry, but I didn't chronicle the build on the web except for a few pics I had posted and everything I had uploaded to my online accounts. Most everything has notes I kept at home along with probably 90% of the part numbers when I bought replacement parts. I posted a link from a posting when I originally bought the bike, but each time I thought about starting a build report, much of what I had done seemed trivial since the project never seemed to be progressing. There were many, many frustrating days... I had to walk away from it a lot!!

Mostly common aggravations, but here's a few things I didn't expect, but had to overcome without hanging myself.
1] Almost every bolt was loose in the bottom of a container when I got it... Took three days to sort thru.
2] Tank had fuel from 10 years ago... A miracle & some polymer tank liner stuff saved it.
3] Broke a perfectly good piston, Bought a Wiseco kit instead of one stock piston.
4] The damn forks had never been apart... the threads inside the top tubes were frozen & it took a week of work just managing to rebuild the forks.
5] Nobody had a front sprocket for a 530 chain conversion because the GPZ output shaft is a larger diam than the regular J engine... Had to find the correct front sprocket and machine my own shim, but it's a 530 chain now.
6] Contaminates in the rinse water stained the white basecoat after wetsanding.... very bad news... I had to be re-shoot & hope for the best in blending the pearls again.. fortunately it worked.
7] The PO had stripped three bolts in the head... Easy repairs, but one didn't strip completely until I was installing the cams in the engine.. Had to heli-coil in a tough place while engine in the frame... I won't do that again!!
8] The oil pan has a hairline crack & weeps oil.. Weird because it held water overnight when I had it apart, but when the motor is hot, it must expand a little... Need to replace it soon.
9] I still haven't figured out exactly where the original warning labels go on the front forks of a GPZ?? If anyone has a pic of ORIGINAL locations, I'd appriciate it.
10] Rebuilding a wiring harness sucks.... Enough said.
11] I am broke for a while now.. LMAO
