Well, first of all, that is WAY too cool a bike for a 15 y.o. :P All kidding aside, I'm not at all familiar with the BS34's, but every engine needs 3 things to run: compression, correctly timed spark, and fuel. Since your carbs are Ebay stepchildren (like most of ours), I would hook up sight tubes to make sure you're getting fuel to the bowls first, then start following the fuel down stream. I know more knowlegable members will come to your aid. Young blood is importance to the continuing interest in these classics! ;)

Way cool young man keep at it!;)

Before messing with these carbs...
With the original set you had on, did it run the same or this became apparent with these new carbs?

If same as old set... Valve clearances, Timing and ignition firing to spec?

Points and condenser or Dyna installed?

All electrical checks measured and confirmed?

Is it the same with the carb filters removed?

Keep plugin away kid, your close to victory!

WoW 15! I can see my son heading down your same path, he's already addicted to dirtbikes at age 7!!! Sorry I can't offer any advice on the carbs, but it looks like your heading in the right direction, my advice, listen to the 'ol chaps on this site, they all have a lot of knowledge and are very helpful!

Best of luck! BE SAFE!!!!

Cool bike good to see a young guy interested in these old bikes.Sounds like timming may not be advancing. There is a mechanical advancer behind the points cover one the right hand side of the bike under the round cover. Not uncommon for these to get stuck after sitting.Should be able to loosen it up and give it a few shots of oil.If you dont already have one get a factory shop manual or a least a Clymer or Hanes manual..Also those BS carbs you have are very sensitive to vacum leaks.Check all hoses to and from carbs as well as intake boots and the little caps that go on the nipples.GOOD LUCK

Didn't you say you put the carb's off your Dad's bike on... it it ran right? Well if so, it has to be the carb's! I'd go thru them, and clean them up really well, if they're in decent shape, you may get lucky and be able to re-use everything, gaskets and all.

Good Luck !

Hey, when you do get that bike running right... respect the POWER, a 1000 as your first ride - Wow! :)

this isn't my first bike, i rode all last summer on a 1982 Suzuki GS300L street bike. It was not a dirt bike. I went on an 80 mile trip out of town it it like 3 times and didn't have any trouble. I have tons of respect for this bike and i know every time i let that clutch out and take off, i could die. i always wear a helmet, steel toe boots, and i thick pair of black jeans when i ride. I got it running right today after putting a new battery in there, the old one was COMPLETELY dead. my highbeam light is still staying on but its idling ok and i can rev it up. The diaphrams don't seem to move when i open the throttle :/ whats wrong in there if they don't move up and down? My vacuum hose that hooks up to the smaller port on the petcock is stiff and probably cracked. That right there is an open vacuum. i adjusted my pilot circuit screws and got it idling ok. I'm going to check out the diaphram problem tomorrow after school. I'm no master at riding but i'm very educated and experienced. I was told once that if you can lie a bike on its side and pick it up... you were read to ride it. Well, my dad owns the exact same bike, all stock and i dropped it in some grass one time after bumping it with my GS300 last summer. I ran over, grabbed the forks and pulled it right up:D i didn't crash once on my first summer of riding ever. I may have dropped it a few time trying to put it on its center stand... but thats it.

Thanks for all the responses,
KT

Hey KT good for you you sound kinda like you know a bit about riding a big bike.Souunds like your dad is behind you and is ready to give pointers.when you get the hang of it,it will quickly become a lifelong passion and a good one at that.Im 47 and have been riding since I was 12 and it has always been a grouding force in my life.eg GET WASTED or RIDE? answer Cant ride if your wasted. I only caution you because Ive seen some freinds get on bikes that they werent ready for only to tragic results be safe and find the right POWERBAND.A Kzed 1000 is a big bike and not really suited to a noob like you ( no insult intended)Just make make sure you take it slow until you can throw that 1000 around like a yz125 thats when youll be free

HIS BIKE IS COOL AS HELL RIGHT NOW!!! he just pulled out his whole wiring harness and repaired it because it kept blowing fuses. His looks like a bobber right now. That bike is the reason i love motorcycles so much. It was the first bike i ever rode on the back of. Im a bigger kid, i got a bit of a gut:) so i decided i needed a bike of my own when we started to bottom out on every little bump:D
