Hello all. I'm new to the site. I've had a couple kz900s in the last few years. I'm now looking to take something else on. I saw a kz650 for sale in my area with a '92 GSXR swingarm and front end with the wheels, brakes and all. The engine is completely stock. I really like the look it brought to the bike so i was thinking about doing something similar myself. I would just buy that one but I think hes asking a little much. My question is, does that swingarm and front end fit in the chassis or do you think he had to do some major modification to it? Basically, is it worth my time to find a 650 and attempt this? Thanks a lot!!

Welcome CE423. There are several conversions like you are referencing underway here in the project forum. I believe they are all 900-1000cc bikes, but the concept and the fabrication work required will be nearly identical. The only difference I could possibly see is that the swingarm might be narrower than a 1000cc model, but I don't have any experience with the 650's. Take a look at Old Man Rock's completed ZX636 conversion, or testarossas '93? gsxr conversion amoung countless others I am not familiar with. Poke around in the projects section and get a feeling for the amount of work it will take. You're the only one that knows if you have the tools, skill and desire to see a project like this through. If you do decide to pull the trigger though, alot of folks will be here to encourage you and offer you advice. I have heard from guys that have done it though, the conversion is worth the effort B)

Welcome to KZR. I think 650's make great Streetfighters. I have a 650 with a 92 ZX7 upside down forks and a GPZ 750 mono-shock swing arm. It all went real easy. I like the Kawi mags so I made a pair of 18 inch police wheels work. It would have been easier to use ZX7 wheels.

That is exactly what I'm talking about doing. I want inverted forks and a mono-shock would be a bonus. When you say it went easy, are you saying the triple clamps and swing arm bolted right up or did you have to do some fab?

A little fab work. The forks was cutting out a clip on the ZX forks and press out the stem. I also removed a 650 stem, then cut a piece of the ZX stem off the end and press the 650 stem into the ZX stem then press them back into the ZX lower triple tree. On the swing arm it was using bearing sleeve from a GPZ 550 that fit the 750 bearings and the 650 pivot bolt and small spacers for the ends and the shock mount I built from a cross bar and a couple of tabs welded to the frame.
