Well, i posted a thread before about a 1977 KZ750. Decided not to go through with buying it. I want something that can do like 70 on the highway... Comfortably. The 750 only had 2 cylinders, lots of torque, but the top speed wasn't enough.
I told my mechanic about my situation, wanting a good bike for next summer, i turned 14 last year so i got my motorcycle permit as soon as i possibly could. I started with riding a suzuki GS300L all last summer. I sold it though. After he heard my story, he said that he had a 1979 KZ1000 that he would sell me for 650 dollars. The headers, gas tank, and seat need to be put on. The carburetors need a good cleaning, and i think it needs fork seals and mirrors and stuff like that. I'm debating on whether to put European bars (like the ones on my dad's bike) or straight drag bars on it. I don't like the look of the original bars too much. I'm gonna put an Em-Go fairing on it too. Like this one on this link... www.triumphbonneville.com/trimage/gallery/grandpaul.jpg

Any tips on what would look good on this bike would be appreciated. Just let me know. A few sources for parts would be nice too. I'll post pics of the bike as soon as i get (if i do) i haven't seen it yet. I'll post pics of it when i get it running and i doll it up a bit:)

Thanks Guys,
KT

KT if you can't get a KZ750 to 70 mph, then you are in need of a tune-up or you havn't discovered the last two gears. That bike should do 100 easy. You might want to hit the gym. At the age of 14, a 600lb bike might be too much.

Actually, Kawasaki makes the perfect bike for you. Try the 250 Ninja. Lighweight, handles well, new versions look really good, cheap, tough, 70 mpg, and a top speed approaching 120 mph. It's awesome to watch a trackday instructor school all of the noobs on liter bikes with a 250 Ninja.

If you can get a 1000 cc bike for that price i would buy it. You will have to spend some money on it.

The 250 Ninja is actually quicker the the big bike. That is a lot of bike though.

I had drag bars on my bike but exchanged the for the euro bars. The drag bars were just too narrow. Roy

I like your style. 14 years old and thinking of a classic. When I was 14 I had a Honda CL175. I got my 900 when I was 17years old and I have had it for over 26 years now. You will need to do some work if you get it but it will be worth it in the longrun.

100 Easy? Oh, i looked at the specs on this website on google and it said that it's top speed was only 102 mph. Not that I would ever go that fast. Plus, i think that that guy sold that bike too. when i called him to ask about it, he said that he had a guy interested in it and that it would be gone by the end of the weekend. That was last weekend too. He may have just been trying to get me to come and buy it sooner but he sounded pretty serious about it. There was a 1975 KZ1000 in omaha. Meant to go and check it out too, both the 750 and the 1000 were in omaha. Then my mechanic told me about the bike that he had. 1979 KZ1000 damn near makes my mouth water:D I rode All last summer on that 300. Never crashed it once. I went all the way to sioux falls from sioux city on it too. My dad let me drive his 1981 KZ1000 a few times. I have a healthy fear of the things. They are heavy, i guess my dad will have to help me with getting it on the center stand:)

I think a 1000 would be perfect. Lots of torque and speed.

I would go for it (nice to know I am not the youngest (being 15) on another forum) 1000 is big but it should haul around pretty well.
