:( so i have been so gung hoe to build my bike . I tried to mount my new pingal pet and noticed that i had to bore a hole in my tank to do so :woohoo: no big deal. I grab my drill and bit for boreing. Mount the gaskit ,mark the hole ,so far so good, mount the plate to the tank then screw in the jewl by hand not to hurt the threads. Thats when the nightmare started i couldnt get it to back out for the life of me so i grabed a wrench and gave her hell out it came. Im thinkin a bur scared a thread there are still pieces of the thread in the plate. I can run a tap threw that to clean the threads but can i fix my new pet or is it junk now. i hate throwin new stough away !!!! :( i have a kz 700 with a Spectra tank . will update photos soon!!

Throw some pipe thread on the pingle threads, attach to the tank and put some gas in her... Does it leak, no then good to go....

Hate to see you throw away a good $100 petcock.... ;)

Are those NPT Pipe Thread? I'd run the Jewel in a die to chase the threads too. I'd use some Yamabond or such that is gas resistant and like OMR said hope for the best. Maybe sacrifice a a few fingers of a good bourbon and a cigar to the gods. Couldn't hurt...

I hope there are enough threads to get it to grab. The bur took off the better half of the threads. Think pingal would replace it if i asked? Being xmas lol

Tap is like a drill bit... You twist it into a hole and it will thread the hole...

The die is the opposite where you'll re-thread the Pingle nipple with the same thread pitch as the tap....

In each case set, they provide a gauge for the thread pitch....

This video link provides the basics.....
The latter part of the clip he die's a bolt where the concept would be the same for the pingle nipple...

OMR

Follow the link for threading a steel rod tutorial....
Also provides how to use the gauge for thread pitch...

Anyone know if those are NPT Pipe Thread? I'm not sure but it would make a difference. Hate to see another mistake happen.

so if you just messed up the nut. Buy another nut. Taps that size will cost you way more than a new nut. If its the tank threads that are bad. instead of trying to find a die nut that size. Look for a thread file that has the same pitch on it. Pitch is the number of threads per inch. Pingle should have info on the pitch size. You can find a thread file through MSC.
