My first project! 1984 KZ750 L4

I'm planning on installing:
- a new front end (zx636 forks. trees, clipons)
- a ZRX1100 swingarm/rear shocks
- ZRX or ZX wheels
- gussets to stiffen the frame
- a round headlight

Never done anything like this before but I"m excited about the challenge.

Any thoughts???

I agree. I remember when they first came out. I was riding a Honda Interceptor 750 at the time (I know, I know, what was I thinking  ) and passed one at a Kawi dealer. After stopping to drool all over it, the salesman told me that he couldn't possibly give me what I needed for the Honda on a trade to make it worth my while. I rode away totally disappointed and a lasting memory.

I guess things have come full circle after all. Now the fun (and challenge) begins.

Well, it's been AGES since my first post about this project but I'm finally starting to make some headway.
Frame bracing is underway:

The biggest delays have been finding parts (still waiting for some) and waiting for friend's schedules to clear up to get help with welding/fitting (since I can't do it myself).

Other things done so far:
- New bearings fitted to ZX9 front wheel. (this took a while to find the bearings too. 25mm ID and 42mm OD to fit ZX9 wheel on ZX636 front axle)
- Front wheel spacers made to compensate for slightly thinner new bearings (9mm vs 12mm OEM).
- New stem had to be machined to fit ZX636 trees to KZ frame.

Things to do next week (or the week after):
- Repaint frame.
- Fit trees (with new tapered bearings) and install steering stops.
- Fit front forks and controls.
- Fit ZRX rear swingarm and shocks.
- Install wheels.

I'll keep you posted with updates as I have them.

Brings a tear to the eyes.... reminiscence of when I was going through the fabrication process... Just loved it!
I mean I actually had fun doing it, thinking, measuring, figuring out the best/strongest method for what I had in mind in aesthetics and in support/safety.... Schwing!

And now seeing you go through it as well... B) Keep those images coming....

Well, its been a while.
Should finally get the frame back this week fitted with ZRX rear end (swingarm, shocks, etc), ZX9 wheels and ZX6 front end. Then its off to the painters for the frame and wheels (both going to be flat black).
Also decided to use a different engine and found a used 1981 KZ1000J engine with ~29Km and wiring harness and mounting brackets for $500.

It does have a couple of issues: broken transmission cover and sprocket cover....

And needs a couple of helicoils installed on the cam cover too.
Hopefully at long last I will start to see some progress.

Looks like I'm going to sell the KZ750 now.
