ok so I've wrestled the ltd from my old boy's possession and have promptly begun ditching the attempted chopper stylings, in favour of a much cleaner cafe racer look.

in my wisdom i didn't take any shots of the bike at the very beginning, with ape hangers and huge sissy bar in all her rusty glory, but here's the shots of the progress/ideas thus far...

ha, yeah was well putrid, amazed the thing actually ran before we dropped it out, started out with black sludge and gradually thinned out to brown then clear liquid.

so far just brasso, autosol and elbow grease on the brightwork...will break out the electric buff and dremel when we pull it right down.

more photos soon!

what an amazing transformation unreal what a bit of elbow grease can do thanks for reserecting the old girl most people wouldn't have given that bike a second look and probably would sent it to the scrap yard yet here it sits alive again it warms this old kawi nuts heart to see it.good job you should pat your self on the back not many people could have seen the potential before you started.

Hey Image,
I purchased the same taillight as the one you mounted on the bike. Looking at the pictures you posted, how did mount the light? Did you just bolt it up or did you notch the taillight housing to have it "fit" the bump for the stock taillight to mount to.
Thanks.

cheers for the comments tim...can't wait til the carbies are synced and jetted (awaiting some pod filters too), then it'll be tearing up tarmac on the daily. always loved the older bikes, and as i get older i'm looking after myself a bit more too - tried commuting the duc for a week and my back was very angry with me...the ltd wins in the comfort department.

joe,

as the housing was solid metal it seemed easier to mod it than the guard, so yeah, i notched it. i picked that one up second hand too, so didn't have the rubber gasket to go underneath it. i made one from a truck mudflap i had laying around. looked so good i picked up a new one for the GR shortly thereafter (which had none of the hassles-no hump in the guard).
