I learned a lesson with bondo. Less is always better. You have to learn somewhere I guess. I went out to the net and did some resarch on bondo and thought ah what the h3ll this will be simple your just trying to shape it. That's the 1st mistake.....

Prepping fender for bondo.

More prepping. There was a lot of sanding involved and my helper got plenty of experience in using a sander. He can be seen working on sanding down the tank AGAIN.

LOL Ok here was my rear fender with the bondo. Someone asked me if I was trying to frost a cake? Less is better bad thing is I did the front fender just as bad.

So I set myself up for more sanding....

As you can see I Was using a piece of sandaper in my hand. Well that got tiresome really quickly so I decided to cheat and use a power sander.

At least you learned something, nothing wrong with that. Applying bondo takes practice and then some more practice.

Yeah, my $21.50 GPz tank took about a quart of Bondo. I learned some tips & tricks pretty quickly, like using a surform (cheese grater file) to knock off the high spots, then an orbital sander with dust collection and a Shop Vac, then a brush attachment on the vacuum hose. I also learned the value of an MP3 player with earbuds: Protect your hearing and have something good to listen to. It helps pass the time, because you will be spending lots of time on it.

make yourself some differant shaped dollies to match the contour your trying to achieve then practice hammering things out rather than just filling full of plastic!;) this is a visor for a ford coupe project i did a couple years ago,made a cardboard template to match body/roof lines and just started bending and welding;) get yourself an old car fender and just visualize what its supposed to look like and start banging it back roughly into shape and keep practicing at like anything else.i might post some lead working pictures in the future if anybody is interested in that kind of stuff!;)

Whoa, you had enough on there where you could of just made a new "Bondo" fender from scratch. :laugh:

Don't feel bad, all of us here have done things in the learning process that just makes us go "WTF with that"!

My recent on was not paying attention to detail and blowing a whole in my engine case... Smooth old man, real smooth.

And I really liked having to share that with Plummen, Mark1122, Larry C, Blue meanie and all the others.... :blink: :whistle:

WOW Plummen! That looks like it would take some SERIOUS patiance. Way to go .Dont forget to post the finished job.
