You have the expensive carbs, the ones with two screws on the cap sell for $300 or more on eBay, the ones with three screws sold for $75 on eBay (mine unfortunately, was hoping for more).

A friend of mine just picked up a z1r that runs for 2200.00 the guy started out at 3300.00 its by far a project bike but its all there I know of another that does not run and even has the stock exhaust and is pretty much all there for 2600.00

Well it looks like I'm going to at least get this bike running, and will probably start to slowly restore it. First thing I need is a starter, so if anyone has one let me know. Any kz1000 starter will work correct? Only certain years?

the common thing seems to be to get a used starter off of an older 900 honda which is a stronger starter and fits the same location.you should be able to search the forum for starter replacement or something close and find the thread that discusses the honda starter swap.

Honda cb900f will work well but u need to grind a lot of material off ot the chain cover.and add larger wires.i just did mine for a 1300cc motor. u should just get a stock 1 . they are fine for stock motors. they are cheep and i have 1 if u deside to go stock.

Hell I'm working on a Z1 that's been sitting since '96 for next summer, you should be able to get that'un up and running in no time

That looks like a really good project you scored, especially
if it came with all the bits and pieces - fairing parts are
extremely hard to come by, especially the triangle-shaped end
caps which have been discontinued by Kawi for years.
Heck, I saw a nice used set of those end caps sell on eBay last
year for just under $100!

Another Russ and another Z1R...very cool.
Glad you're going to keep it. Have you decided a restoration direction? I mean are you doing to aim for 'stock' or 'stock-ish'; or are you going to modify?

Also, do I recognize that GS from GSresources or from Oldskoolsuzuki? I'm sure you don't have the only one, but yours is verrrrry clean and looks familiar. Nice. If you get that Z1R in acceptable condition (which may be very impressive if it clears the bar in your garage) you'll just be a CB900/1100F away from the 'tri-fecta'!

Just giving you a hard time. Nice 'Zuke and your Z1R sure seems to be 'all there' for the important stuff. If you do go 'modified' that header will bring some decent money on eBay; and Z1R wheels are unique, the front is an 18" and the rear has 'rim locks' (which were totally un-necessary, but made for some silly bragging rights). Don't throw anything away from it if you go modified, remember most parts on that bike are very likely eBay worthy.

Keep us posted. Something tells me that it will be interesting to watch you work.

You got some nice bikes to work with. The Z1R has grown on me immeasurably since I saw the turbo z for sale 9 or 10gs cant remember. Those are not seen around so often. Didn't like them then but now... They should have come out with the stealth bomber first and then that bike would have been enormously popular.lol Who cares what the bike is worth. Make it into a really nice bike and keep it. Some day when you can't ride you can sell it and pay for your nursing home bills but for now... what's it worth to you?? I am going to spend at least 10 grand on my 79 run of the mill ltd kz1000. Is it worth it? Not to resell but if I ride it like I stole it it will be for me.
