Just picked up a 1980 kz750 four and I've got some questions. 27k on her, runs and rides great. First question is the cam chain is rattling, is this a difficult fix? Second, Are there any other tail sections that bolt up if I use the seat from the same bike I got the tail from? I was hoping the the 78' 750 twin tail section bolted up. Can anyone help? I just don't think that tail will look right with the look I'm going for, but maybe someone can prove me wrong. Thanks for any info!

I need to know which 80 KZ750 four you have, if it's a KZ750E then I have a project 750E in teh shop with no tail section on it, and a couple of 750 twin tails, so I could check. If it's a KZ750H I can't help.

This may sound stupid, but how do I tell the difference? I'm new to KZ's, but I've always wanted one ever since I saw a modded KZ900. My bike looks exactly like this one,

I would like a tail like this one,

I'll get some pics tomorrow sometime of mine though.

The VIN number. It should have KZ750_ . The blank should be a letter denoting specific model.
I know it would not be any fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

The 76-80 750 twin tail sections are the same, but the one in the second link is a KZ750L and those tail sections are kind of scarce.

If you do want a 750 twin tail section, I'll swap you one for your 750E tail.

Here is a pic of my 79 750 twin with an 80 tail, not the one you would be getting but I have several of them.

Hmm, that one didn't work, but here's a pic of another one of mine.

Still have to check and see how much trouble it would be to mount it though. I do know that the 750 twin tail mounts with 5 bolts, two on each side and one in the back in the middle.

I have a 80 KZ750G that I'm trying to get running. Hasn't ran in 20 years. So far with a little rewiring and taking the starter motor out and putting it back the starter motor will crank over now but I'm not gettin any spark. Most likely a bad coil or a bad ground???

Also...any free knowledge on my KZ750G would be greatly appreciated. This is my first cycle and I'm pretty much guessing every time I pull the tool box out to work on it. I have a manual in PDF form I downloaded. But it's hard to run to the computer and back to the garage every 5 minutes.

I just got thread jacked:ohmy: Anyway, I'm planning a 6 inch stretch with a late model swingarm, and running a 170 tire, but I don't know if it would look right with that tail section. I've seen this done on 650's, 900's ,and 1000's, but never a 750. What are your opinions?

Well first you need to pull your head out your butt Jeff and get it running right. LOL
Just messing man. Yours may be quicker in the end but mine is gonna look better........LOL
Anyway you know we can make anything work, with a little bit of extra time and us saying "who cares lets do it anyway"
So just tell everyone you want free help to fix it and then we can make it look good.
But maybe I will go with the wiesco bore and turbo it... then you would really hate me...
Sorry man had to poke fun, you're getting married its not like your gonna have time to work on it anyway. LOL
Ok enough bull come over and we can get over to the mech, and fix the cam chain tensioner.
But first lets brag about your xj and get a pic of your 750.

The XJ550
And the 750
06 ZX6R (7&1/4 inch stretch, 2 inch lower rear, and 1 inch lower front)
KZ650 (project stretch it slam it)

This is exactly how I want to build my 750.

Do you guys think it will look ok with my square tail section? BTW the two bikes in the above post are both mine.
Thanks for any input and opinions.
