Ok,

So after not running since last year, I got my 1000 running. Part of the reason it took so long is that I had to figure out how to get the hydraulic clutch I fitted to work.
I modded the stock cover for the slave cylinder to fit and trimmed down the clutch pushrod to fit. I went to the local bike junkyard and found a clutch line that was long enough. After not getting the system to bleed I rebuilt the M/C. I still couldn't get the system to bleed because the slave was lower than the M/C of course.
I came up with an idea to bleed the system. I had to remove the exhaust system since the clutch line was routed between it and the frame and taking the line off the M/C or slave would be a step backwards. I left the M/C on the handle bars and hung the slave from the rafters using a tie down strap. Having the slave higher than the M/C allowed the air to work their way up to the bleeder on the slave cylinder.
After about 30 minutes hanging there I took the slave down and clamped the piston using a C-clamp. The reason I did this is so that the M/C would have something to work against and makes the bleeding much easier.
I remounted the slave to the cover, the cover to the engine, and remounted the exhaust using new gaskets.
Turns out that my battery is almost done but a few kicks and the bike fires right up.
I took it around the block and everything seems to work OK. The carbs are overflowing, the shift lever needs adjusted down and some other odds and ends. But she lives!!
I'll get some pics posted in the next few days.

I know this is an ancient thread but I started it and it still pertains to the same bike so...

My z1000 lives some more...

After been sitting for at least 2 years, I had some motivation to get her back on the road.

I swapped in a ZX7 front end which worked out way better than I had planned. I may need some stiffer springs for it but the Zx11C rim and brakes were direct bolt-ons.

I also rebuilt the carbs and got a sealed battery. The bike fired right up within 15 seconds of cranking. No leaks from the carbs and once warmed the bike revved pretty cleanly. I think that the carbs still could use a sync and some fine tuning.

I still need to figure out how to mount the stock Kz gauges and get the front fender back from my buddy who's painting it for me plus some other odds and ends that need taken care of before I can tear up the streets.

Anyways, on to some pics and short video.
