Question:
Should I get the chrome off of the headlight and clocks?
More pics to follow. Unfortunately I can not salvage the paint on the tank. Too much has peeled off.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHeadlight and clocks are OK, a buyer could just paint them black.
Not picking on the bike, BUT get a correct ignition cover. You could sell that finned one for more money than a stock one costs.
I restored this one up for a Buddy of mine, he sold this one on ebay.
Al the drag racer from Lancaster, NY

No Sir I appreciate your input. I have seen a few on ebay and wasn't positive which one was correct until now. I do plan on doing just that. I have a finned clutch cover that I have swapped out already and will sell them both as a pair when I am done putting her back.

Thanks for the info!

Waiting on the seat. This is a crappy pic. She looks better than this. Does anyone have the stock points cover?
When I am done I will have a finned clutch cover along with this points cover for sale if anyone is interested.

As always

....When they were cheap as new tires for your car....seriously, nobody wanted them back then. If I hadn't been going to school in the mid 80's, I would have scooped up as many classic old muscle bikes as I could....I did end up with titles to 22 CBX's and a quite a few CB750 / 900 / 1100F's between 1983 and 1995, though....still have 4 CBX's, in bits and pieces at the moment, of course....

I'm very interested to see how this comes out. Like Kray-Z mentioned where do you guys find these bikes?, I had to make mine from spares I had in the back shed and buy parts off Flea bay where I could.

Good luck, at least you have a good starting point
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, getting new/ refurbished 83-84 motor soon
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as above)

Since you asked,
A very good life long friend of mine was a life long KZ enthusiast. He had 2) 900's and this 1000 in his lifetime. The first 2 he had to sell because of kids, first, The second time because of a divorce. This one he found and told me that no matter what he would never sell. Jeff had a massive heart attack at the age of 52 and left this world. Its funny one day he showed me a news paper that showed a semi totaling a pick up truck. Jeff survived that accident. Any way after his funeral his wife called me and asked if I could help her out. She needed money and asked if I would buy Jeff's bike,. I was in the middle of starting my new company and really didn't have any extra money but I reluctantly gave her what she asked. Once a year I would start her up and maybe go around the block once or twice but for the most part she sat in the shed covered up and almost forgotten. This year I decided that my shed was no longer big enough so I put every thing outside and had a pole barn built. She sat outside all summer. The barn cost more than I expected so I considered selling her. I have had her for over 10 years and every time I would look on ebay I could never find one like her. I was actually bummed because my title stated that she was a KZ1000A4 not an LTD. I did discover that the A4 was the plain version which bummed me out.
I searched the web

and found this forum. When I asked what my bike was the guys here was kind enough to steer me in the right direction as to find out information on her and to tell me what I should do is put her back to stock. When I am done she will have stock grips, seat, exhaust, rear fender, air box, engine covers, black headlight bucket, black clock covers, carbs re-jetted ( had a Kerker Headrer and pods) And unfortunately this summer outside peeled a lot of paint off the tank so I have to have it painted. I have the original badges but they are worn so I may go with repops? I am dumping quite a bit of money into her and my wife thinks that I am going to sell her. That was the plan at first but I have to carry the torch for Jeff. Not to mention the fact that I believe she will go up in value. To answer your question I would say that the bike ( I call her Jeff) Is my best ever "Barn Find" because I didn't know what she was. In the 10 plus years that I have owned her I have had offers to buy her but they were sub LTD prices. And I almost did. Maybe she is my lottery prize? Maybe I am lucky? Maybe Jeff is somewhere smiling because now I am loving her like he once did?

Thanks for asking
