GPZ1100B1 Tank Sender Unit Compatibility with KZ1000J3 / 83ELR Meter Clocks

Hello,
I don't believe I have seen an answer on this before but I have seen the question! I have a nice spare tank for my J3 (a GPZ1100B1 tank that will require a conversion) that I bought many years ago and am thinking of preparing it as a spare tank for a rainy day. Does anyone know if the 'round' sender unit on the B1 tank connects to and works for the J3 / ELR metered gauges? The B1 has digital gauges I believe and the ones on the J3 / ELR are not. I have posted a picture from an earlier post from another member of the bottom of both tanks. Top pictures are the B1 tank. Bottom picture is a J3/ELR tank.

I don't know. From the diagrams at Partzilla the 1100-B1 & 1000-J3 round fuel gauges have the same part number & same round o-ring part number, so one should work with the other. From the 81-83 1000/1100 FSM both of them have a bimetal fuel meter but the part numbers are different because the B1 is a fuel+volt meter. The wiring appears to be the same & the 83 supplement section says to use the 81 electrical section to troubleshoot the 83 fuel meter. seems to me it should work. ps: you may have to do a little wiring, though. might be simple.

Thanks. I think I was mistaken in that the gauges on the B1 are not digital. Now I need to just find the part#52005-1018. I must say on Partzilla it is confusing as the sender for the B1 carries two different part numbers which they say are both compatible with the J3 which we know is not the case.

The Kawasaki parts diagrams can be confusing. There are two different fuel gauge senders listed for the B1 & J3. But Kawasaki kind of lumps more than one model into those diagrams*, so it may be that the B1 came with one fuel gauge & the B2 the other. same goes for the J1/J2/J3 models. If there are two different fuel tank openings, then it should be easy to determine which one has which. Especially for you since you have the tanks.

Vintage3, in case you aren't aware, there's an 81-83 KZ1000/1100 pdf FSM available. It may be linked here on KZR in the Filebase section. The manual has extensive troubleshooting info for the meters & gauges. Not that you'd need it for the motorcycles mentioned here, but there's also an 83-85 1000/1100 pdf floating around the internet. I don't know if it's available here.
