An attempt to paint my GPZ 750 Tank was created by HeavenlyMachines
I had a quote to paint it professionally for $500 which is decent and would be a top job. But why not try it first just to have fun :P

Some trial sanding with 350 grit and learning how to do filler

First attempt was a fail as I did not put enough hardener and the filler would not cure. Not fun to having to scrape every gooey thing again

OK sure. here's my learning so far:

1) Read the instruction on the filler/bondo. Too little of hardener and the bloody thing would not cure
when done right, they actually cure *really fast* so after a while I learnt just to mix small amount at a time

2) support the tank fully. I DROPPED IT because it was wobbly on the table. Luckly it landed on the seam and no further damage

Is this going to be a rattle can special paint job or are you using a spray gun and real automotive paint? If you are doing the later then I strongly suggest you stop and fully strip off all the old paint using paint stripper. Starting fresh is always best.

Why remove the emblems and fill in the emblem depressions and screw holes? Are you embarrassed that it’s a Kawasaki? :whistle:

It's just Rattle Can job. If I had stripped it to bare metal I'll at least hire a booth to do 2K paint :)

Just curious what can be had for sub- $80 and elbow grease. It will be Duplicolor Acrylic Lacquer for quick drying.

The screw hole is there!! I filled the depression as it seems to be where water got lodged = rust

Oooops! My apologies. I thought your tank originally had a recessed area for the emblem like my KZ650 (see image below). I forgot that Kawasaki stopped doing that on later tanks. Ed

You can get a really nice shine using the Duplicolor paint, but it isn't fuel resistant at all.
I would topcoat with SprayMax 2k clear or some other 2-part urethane in a spray can.

ChuckHawks.com --- Harley Paintin' for the underfunded.
Duplicolor Truck Van & Suv is the paint I used, but a fuel spill ruined it. doh.
