Yup, all the descriptions I've heard state that the puller makes the job 'easy'. I've never been able to get mine to work (and I bought one too)...on the front forks, I usually end up chiseling the seals out.

1974 900 Z1 modified to look like a LTD , some engine mods. But I still have all the original parts.

If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?

The one I got from Jeff @ Z1 Enterprises worked like a charm on my forks. Just hooked it and levered it out with alittle force.

Use a pick of some kind to get that metal "spring" out FIRST !!! Otherwise you'll tear the Hell out of everything:pinch: :S Or at least I'd guess you would.
THEN the seal puller works;) And you DO need to reuse the round spring steel "spring". Or at least I did on my 1974 900 Z1.
Good luck, Pat

If you already torn the "spring" up... well..
I'm not sure.. I have "extra" from my "extra" forks for my Z1's.. Not sure if they will work for your bike/forks or IF you REALLY need them..
Mine hold the fork seals in place as far as I can tell.
ANYBODY else with input ??
IF you do need some and some of mine will work let me know and I'll drop one or two in the mail for you.
And YES my seals did/ do have a metal ring inside the seal

OK maybe what you have is different than mine or you got the spring that is in the seal..
Mine had/has a steel "spring" retaining clip above the seal that holds the seal inside the fork. You have to look / feel for it.
Anyway glad yours is starting to come along.
Best of luck! pat

I strongly suspect...that spring is not in the parts diagram beause it's part of the seal, not the fork assembly. Your replacement seals won't have one unless they are OEM old stock. Order new clips for the top of the seals. Order new dust boots if the old ones are cracked or don't fit well, otherwise the clips will rust and you'll have a greater chance of water getting sucked into the forks to contaminate the oil, espeially if you have any pits on the tubes.
