'78 KZ650C Rim Swap Upgrade was created by KZKrayzee
I have been restoring a 78 KZ650C for the past year now and everytime I look at it I want to change out the rear rim & tire and get some beefier rubber down on the pavement. Has anyone successfully swapped out a wider rim? If so, what rim or swing arm worked for you? I know what ever I do, will require some mods, and I am willing to go the extra mile for some fatter rubber!

Welcome.

Try a search on this main site and in the archives.

GS1000/1100 aluminum swingarms seem to be a popular choice.

You can get a 130 rear tire on the stock set up.

I have been hearing alot about the gs1100 swing arm conversion. I heard it was a pretty popular swap and the mods are pretty basic. Has anyone swapped out a stock kz650 swing for a gs1100? If so,how did the conversion go for you and how is the finished product? Any tips if I decide to go with a gs1100?

Its been done on 650s with success, and you can go with something newer and go to a 190 tire with the right setup. you dont have to go to a mono shock with the new arms if you dont want to either(its more work), just weld on the shock mounts.

Now that I am a little more educated about this site, I have to apologize to all of you KZR Veterans! I just learned how to use the archives section and I can see that this topic is covered top to bottom! I found some crazy forums and some great points and tips! My wife laughs at me and now named my conversion quest "The Great Swing Arm Debate" because of all the differences in opinion. I couldnt help but laugh and share that with all of you! Once again sorry bout that, but dont shoot me... I shoot back ;-!

Happy Clutchings To U All!

I reallly like the look of mpaquet4's mono swing arm! Can you tell me what the pro's and con's of a conversion like he did involves and what the differences in performance are? That bike looks fun but I havent heard very much talk about that conversion! Which conversion do you perfer in performance and style?

KZK

if you want pics of mpaquet4's 78 kz650b mono swing arm, go to " kzrider.com/component/option,com_comprof...erProfile/user,5141/ ?"

theres a few pics of my build up in this thread

one of the great things about the new shock is that everything is adjustable, not just the spring

Can the swingarm swap without the monoshock be done on twin 750s also?

Thanks,

Thanks,

i dont see why not, i had to modify my zx arm to fit my 650. (had to narrow it some, i think a 1/4 inch or so, used a chop saw) just make it the same width as your stock arm, and then figure out what pivot bolt you are going to use, then weld the shock mounts on the arm. bolt everything together, then its on to wheels.....

It will probably be a winter project along with everything else I would like to do :) , but I would love to go to a larger tire without all of the mods that go along with a monoshock.

Thanks for the help,
