KZ650 needs longer shocks! was created by Wildog
Does anyone know what the measurement is from the center of one eyelet to the other eyelet is on factory KZ650 shocks 1978. I need about two more inches of shock so I am looking for another shock that is longer. Triumph had almost 13 inch shocks on their bikes, and I wondered if that would work. Any ideas.

I have a set of very good shocks from a KZ1000P14 that are some 13 inches. I do not know if the attachments are the same. From the parts diagram they would appear to attach in the same way.

I am trying to get the back end of the bike just a little higher. I had some air shocks on the bike but I was wondering if the factory KZ650 shocks were longer or a pair off of a 1000 might be longer.

Sorry, neither of my 650s have factory shocks. Someone here must have a set!

I have the original shocks off my '78 KZ650 in a box in the garage. Cannot check right now, as I am at work, but post here if you still require the measurement, and I can check in the morning when I get up. Later.

have you tried setting the adjusters to a stiffer setting on your shocks?

Stock length on 1978 B,C, and D model shocks are 13.5 inch. I use them on all of my KZs due to my short fat body. I think the Z1, KZ900 and KZ1000 all had 14 or 14.5 shocks. Progressive makes shorter shocks but I don't know about longer. You can use 1000/900 shocks on 650s as they mount the same.

I just looked up the Progressive shocks for the 78 650B and 78 1000A and they say the 650 uses a 13" shock while the 1000 uses a 13.5" shock. If that's incorrect then blame Dennis Kirk, as that's where I looked up the info
