I picked up some zx12 forks. It looks like the font end will drop down about 3" lower with a 17 " wheel. What kind of drop are you guys seeing with your fork swaps and is it an issue? Can you adapt a cable drive speedo to these? or use a diff.wheel to accept one?

there is no speedo cable to the front wheel on a zx12. I can do a burnout and it tells me Im breaking the speed limit . you could get an older zx wheel that used a speedo drive on the front wheel. something in the 90's I would think.
to get less of a drop, get a custom top triple made (or mod a stock one)that drops the forks down some. info here

Mine will be dropped about 3" with the USD GSXR fork and 17" ZX9R wheel. My only concern is going to be pipe clearance. My wheel doesn't have a speedo drive either so I will be buying a digital speedo.

I have discovered that there are a few options.Kawasaki has used the same parts on some bikes. The zrx, zzr, and early zx9"s use the same front wheel and speedo drive gear.So you can use one of these and still use your stock speedo. You just have to watch what brakes u use.I have zx12 calipers, and they are identical to zrx"s.but the rotor diameter is dif.zx7,7,11,12,zzr,ues 320mm rotors zrx uses 310mm.So the trick is to match the rotors to the forks so that the cal will fit the rotor.all these rotors have the same bolt patern so you can use either of these wheels. Not 100% sure on all the years yet.

That's interesting about the brakes. I got the '96 GSXR front end and '99 ZX9r wheel and brakes from a friend who decided to go with all Hayabusa suspension/brakes. He had bought the wheel and calipers as a package off ebay - Tokico 6 piston calipers and 310mm rotors. The calipers bolt on, the wheel slides into place, just needs a spacer. I thought it was going to be easy....uh oh. Time to compare #s on kawasaki.com

The 94 to 97 zx9" use a speedo gear.I wonder if the 99 zx9 rim is wider? If not you could change the spacers to fit the speedo gear?.I was told gxr cal(year ?) will bolt to 94 to 96 zx9 forks.I've been useing bike bandit . Is Kawasaki.com better?
