Small battery was created by Blowntrc5
Hello all!!
I'm looking to use a YUSA 12V - 1.2AH sealed battery on my now kick only 1979 KZ650D. Other then the dim headlight at low rpms, will this work? I will also be doing the coil mod to my Accel coils.

Thanks,
Doug

I'm trying to keep the weight down, and space hard to come by(custom frame).
The charging system seams fine, I would just rather use a small battery instead of a capacitor(sp).

Thanks,
Doug

I'm running something similar - kick only. No problems here...

My brother went to kick only on his KZ1000 and went with the smaller battery for weight savings with absolutely no problems. He also has all stock lights and electronic ignition. Shouldn't be a problem for you.

Your bike should be able to go completely batteryless, with a capacitor, as you said. I've done this on my bike as well (but I had to bump start since the 550's have no kick). I didn't even notice the lights getting dim at stops (I use two 35W bulbs). If you notice the lights getting dim, check the resistance/voltage on your fuse box. Bad connections there are a weak spot on the 650's.

Having a small battery should be no problem at all. My friend used one on his 77 650 (because the 77 can't go batteryless) for the same reasons and had no problems.

yeah, I wish my buddy never sold that bike. He regrets it too.

You have any photos? Put them up when you get a chance
