ok im tired of fouling the plugs on the 900, so im going to do the wg coil mod. Have any of you done this to your bikes?, was it easy, and was there more power after?

Don't hesitate with this mod....DO IT! :woohoo:
My '78 KZ650B would argue with me when starting cold on the button, I did the coil mod and now it fires first rotation hot or cold. There is no "downside" to this mod, s'all good!

I just did it to my KZ750 this weekend and it was a night and day difference. 10V to 12V! $10 and a little time. The bike runs much better at idle. If you have a problem with voltage to the coils, you will notice a difference when this mod is done.

1981 KZ750H2 - V&H 4-1 pipe, pods, jetted, clubmans, homebrew rearsets, 18" rear wheel and more.
Parting out a 1982 KZ750H3 to fund future projects

well i didnt do the mod yet, i found a new place for my ground wires to go, on the back of the rear fender mount. After doing this i had a pretty significant increase in voltage( dont know what it is off hand), i know this because the lights were brighter and it started easier and ran stronger. So im going to put the coil mod on hold until i try out this new set up for a week or so. But i did buy all the things at the part's store today.

I kept fouling plugs after I did it but that was because I only had around 110 psi in each cylinder. :( But with the new 1075 kit, shimmed and lapped valves, new valve springs and bigger carbs, it should run a bit stronger. :P

I know nothing about electrical but got my coil mod done in an hour, followed WG's instructions and had no problem. Hardest part was deciding where to mount relay and have it look good (I'm anal about things like that) Did not notice big differance but then I already have a killer ignition system. But now I know it's getting full voltage!

1980 KZ650F1, Bought new out the door for $2,162.98!

For what it's worth....I bought a domestic style GE ground bar (the kind you would use in a regular house electric panel, and mounted it under the seat. ran a heavy short ground cable to the ground bolt by the kickstart and then ran all the ground leads I could find to the new bar. Also took a new ground lead direct from the battery to the same ground bolt by the kickstart and a new cable from the new ground bar to the frame bolt in the middle of the frame web immeditely behind the tank. used the heaviest cable I could (4 ga?). Worth the effort.

Recently edited the tech article on COIL REPOWERING on our site to include the link to a place that sells both the pigtail and relay. They are a car electronics place and seem to be a pretty stable company. Can't recall their name but they do ship quick. I usually buy a number of relays and pigtails and they offer a discount for buying about a dozen of each at a time... they are inexpensive.

I did my 900 and this is one of if not THE BEST mod. you can do to your elecrical system.starts better runs better and the plugs last longer.
