Hard to tell man, but I doubt it. Different connectors, voltage values needed for it to work properly. Its less likely, sorry!

Chances are good they'll work. They're strictly mechanical, no voltages to consider (except the 12v light bulbs). As long as the ratios are the same for the cable drives, they should work just fine. Hopefully someone will chime in with some more specific knowledge, but I'm betting they would work.

that helps.. thank guys. im not too worried about the wires or plugs, i can retrofit those, i was worried about the machanics. i was fairly confident that the speedo would work, but will the tach work being from a 400? are the pulses going to match to that on a 1000? or is there a setting on the tach to change this? THANKS AGAIN...

I'm not sure about the 400, but the '80 KZ1000 uses a cable only for the tach, no pulses, no signals, no electronics whatsoever. The speed of the cable depends on the worm gear drive connected to the camshaft.

Great. if that is the case, i dont see a problem, my 80 has a drive cable, and as far as i can see, the tach on the 400 is the same. thanks a lot... seriously. you saved me a crap load of money i hope(as long as this works)

i think the gauges will work, but they won't be a direct bolt-on.

from the kawasaki.com pics, the 2 bolts on the kz400 gauge mounting bracket (that bolt the gauge cluster to the bike) are wider apart than the kz1000.

and i think the kz400 gauges will have a smaller diameter than the kz1000 gauges.

(i installed some yamaha rd250 gauges on my kz1000. they fit perfectly but the speedo runs about 10 mph too high, and the tach won't rev past 5000 rpm....but apart from that they're perfect! :pinch::whistle::P )

Glad to hear they are working. Did they bolt on to the 1000 bracket OK?
