Charging problem. was created by Larry2882
At the negative post of the battery are two wires that connect to the battery terimal. One is the large wire that is the main ground, and a small wire with a bullet connector on it. What does this small wire connect to for a ground? Could this be the reason the bike is not charging? 1977 KZ650B1.

Larry, the smaller wire probably has nothing to do with the charging system. It is black/yellow so it is a ground wire as well and I think if you look at the mechanical rear brake light switch on your bike, it may be that this switch is supposed to connect to this wire. Can't be 100 percent sure so look to see how the rear brake light switch ground wire is connected... it will be black/yellow as well.

The bike can't be charging, as it killed a new battery in less than an hour. I have a good multimeter and can check if the stator or alt. as I call it,is putting out any charge. Can this be checked at the connector on the wires comming from the alt.whict exits the rear of the gearbox?I think they then go on to the rectifer.

Check out "68VAC at 4000RPM" in the Electrical Forum.
I'm too lazy to copy the thread, but it'll tell you how to check for voltage at your battery.
