bike cutting out

i was out to day on my 74 z1 900 and i went to open it up and the bike just cut out all of a sudden. i pulled over and moved the key a little bit and the instument lights and headlight and tail light all came on, and she fired right back up. then i went and got gas and rode about 10 or 15 miles and she died out again, but fired right back up. so if anybody can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like you answered your own question? You might need a new ignition switch. A bunch on ebay...

Sounds like you nailed it for sure Blue. Would not think any single circuit failure would kill everything as stated.
OldKow, you might try WD-40 spray on switch innards if you are willing to go to all the trouble of accessing switch contacts, spray, reassemble and then take a chance on it not helping. Probably cheaper in the long run to buy new.

Also check the connections at the battery.
