Thanks guys for your inputs. I'll try to clean out the switch and check my brake levers.

Regarding side cover badges ---
The Kawasaki KZ1000 Motorcycle Service Manual from Kawasaki Heavy Industries Motorcycle Division (Part No. 99931-540-03) covers 1977, 1978 and 1979 models, specifically 1977 KZ1000-A1, 1978 KZ1000-A2, 1978 KZ1000-D1, 1979 KZ1000-A3, and 1979 KZ1000-D2.
The manual has a Model Identification page preceding the section for each model year.
The Model Identification page preceding the 1977 section shows full view photographs of both right and left sides of the KZ1000-A1. Both sidecovers say KZ1000.
The Model Identification page preceding the 1978 section shows a full left side view photograph of the KZ1000-A2 (the sidecover says KZ1000) and a full right side view photograph of the KZ1000-D1 (the sidecover says KZ1000 Z1R).
The Model Identification page preceding the 1979 section shows a full left side view photograph of the KZ1000-A3 (the sidecover says Z 1000 MK.II -- without the K) and a full right side view photograph of the KZ1000-D2 (the sidecover says Z1R-II 1000).
The D1 and D2 are the cafe racer styles.
The LTD models for these years are not separately mentioned in the manual. Perhaps they have separate bound supplement manuals (as did the first 1976 KZ900LTD).

Patton, Dunno about the LTD model having a separate manual. I have looked high and low because they don't talk much about the VM26SS accelerator pump assy used on the 79/80 LTD. The other models got the 28 (the D1/D2 got non-pump 28s). I haven't a clue as to what the OEM settings are for the 26 pumper... the Clymers manual has some settings but says the pilot fuel mix screws should be ZERO turns out and that means fully closed. They won't run right with the mixture screws closed. If anyone has an LTD supplement or FSM, give me a shout!

Try replacing the turn signal relay(s). They can be had at PepBoys and you want to look for the heavy duty type. My turn signals were late AND dim. This fixed the problem on my bike.
