Z1R weak spark

I have a '78 KZ1000D1 Z1R that ran fine (smoked an '85 Nighthawk 650 but lost my left body side cover on last ride ) when it was parked (about 4 years ago) and won't start now...After cleaning the carbs I checked to see if it was sparking and I noticed that even with a strong battery it won't spark at all when cranked with the electric starter but with the kick starter it sparks but is very weak. Any suggestions? The bike is all original with 14,000 miles on the o.d.

Obviously, your points/condensors or igniter igntion should be checked out as well as wiring from those to the ignition coils. You should also check out your coils. Do you have a shop manual? A manual does explain how to make the necessary checks.
