Dyna rotor is wrong, what to do?

It seems I have a rotor which extends beyond where it is supposed to. When I tighten the 13mm hold-down bolt, the 17mm hold-down nut clamps the end of the rotor, locking it in place. No advance, and no scoot.

From the picture, you can kind of see what I am talking about. The edge of the rotor extends about a 1/2mm above the end of the shaft it mounts on, and you can see where the nut has already scarred the end of the rotor. I thought about filing down the back side, but in looking at that part, there is not enough material to remove from that end, without taking away clearance that the advancer weight pegs need to travel in. This is a number "1" rotor, which may not be correct for the application. So instead of grinding down the outside and maybe ruining it, before finding out anything from the experts, I will wait in the hopes that someone here in the forum might have a solution besides going grinder crazy near a magnet.

Where's McGiver when you need him? That guy could fix anything with a broken toothbrush.

You're missing a part.

Check out this parts diagram from BuyKawasaki.com Notice the special washer with the two notches for the hollow shaft the bolt goes through. It's part #16.

I wish it were that simple. . .:(

The 17mm nut thing I referred to in my original post is the part #16 from the diagram. It's the part that is squashing down on the end of the rotor and trapping it. The original point cam was held in place under the 17mm thing, but it was free to rotate. There isn't any way to push the rotor down any further. It's too tall in relation to the shaft it rides on.

I appreciate the ideas though. . .

The KZ650/KZ700/KZ750 fours all use a #1 rotor. It's possible Dynatek packaged a wrong one with the unit or has a mis-stamped one.

Dimensions: 30mm deep, 6mm cutouts for the weight arms.

Well, maybe it's psuedofixed. . .one of those temporary repairs that may become permanent, depending on factors like, how hard is this thing to deal with, really.

I looked at it again, and the two little nubs that #16 (from the pic posted, thanks in advance) rests against are just outside the outer edge of my magnablasterdynotriggercamswivel on steroids. So, I rummaged around in the spare nut bin, and found a shouldered nut/washer thingy without the recessed parts on it that #16 has, and filed two teeny slots in it, to act as a semi-anchor if I ever have to adjust the cam chain by using that part to rotate the crankshaft. I guess I could have reused my #16 by reorienting it 90 degrees out, but I'm not as clever as I'd like to be, since I already have it back together, the trigger is free to rotate, and the bike runs remarkably better. Now off to find a timing light to set, and hopefully forget ever having to fool with a pointless system again. Kano, I'd like to see a picture of what you posted if you get the chance. . .it sounds like a really different setup than what I have. Appreciate all the input, this board is a great help and maybe Dyna will send me an e-mail in the interim.

Shalom y'all, off to enjoy riding in February, Georgia!

Make a thread for/of what?
I'm ready to ride. I can stick this bitch back together and be ready to go in a few minutes. If I break down, foul plugs, run out of gas, what ever, I'll call the lil' lady and tell her to come git' me,,,like, NOW. And bring me/us a beer!
Eight weeks from now, I sort of hope to have 'er near 100%.
Call me! My number is BR549.
Actually it ain't, but I can be found at Gold Rush Jewelry in Dahlonega. Leave a msg. or PM me.
