Sounds like more than a little back firing not a mechanic clicking!
Connect your carb sync clocks, they will show you the faulty cyl. (lean carb @ idle) by the vaccum drop.....

A quick test for leaking carb rubber boots.
Spray break cleaner on the carb rubber boots area (carb/cyl. head) at idle.
If the idle rpm is changing or going lower, one or more of your boots are leaking and sucking air. Than the engine or one cyl. is running lean that causes the piff-paff back firing sound into the air box.

I fixed the problem capping off # 3 atmospheric nipple. TexasKZ was right and I watch a video on that same topic today using carb cleaner or a propane port. I think carb cleaner is better so I’ll do that sometime this week. Bike is not clicking or backfiring now learning a lot on YouTube videos if I ever get back to Germany 🇩🇪 I owe you a beer 🍺.
