no, thankfully wookie im not being charged like that. i get that its him, and one maybe two mechanics, so im still being patient. my zen is strong.

Hey Yall!! 
So the adventures of carbs continues!
3 rebuild kits -fail
a "newish" set of carbs ordered....UPS shattered them in transit. physically broken main bodies. 

now....a 400 some odd dollar set on order. apparently a reputable source. remember my ZEN...

iv been told ill have the ole girl back before Christmas. 

if I didn't have the Honda to ride, i might have gone stir crazy. 

if I get to OEM carbs back, does anyone have a good line on a killer inspection and or assembly so I can have spares?

Here is a good method i have used to check that float needle dont leak and that float height is right before mounting carbs in the bike.

Sounds like You have a pinhole in the brass float or a corroded brass overflow tube in the bowl. I've ran across this before on the same twin 750.

Pull the bowl and remove float, shake it. Note the weight difference between the two floats or submerse it in a jar of any liquid, easy to tell if one sags in the fluid.

repeatedly the floats failed: the old ones, the 3 diff rebuild kits....so the NEW NEW carbs are on and the problem is fixed. now the dilemma. Need time to get the bike, but working for the government is annoying lol

Holy smokes!!! I have my bike back. No fuel leaking. It runs like a top. I feel like it idle's a little high. But I'm okay with it for the moment. I'm going to go ahead and delete this thread later tonight. Because the problem has been solved and I appreciate all the input you guys gave me!!!

Well, my friend, I am sad to say the best. I did was buy brand new carburetors for it. I wish I could have done more like DIY troubleshooting, but ultimately that was the solution but it's fine. I will leave it up

Holy cow the adventures of my seventy seven continue......

 So this morning on my way to work. It was running like absolute garbage I assumed because it was rather damp out. I got to a light before. I turned to go to work and I go to take off. The bike spins out and I almost lose control. A unintentional burnout is not fun to me. I did not drop it. I did recover and I was happy but I smelled fuel. Do keep in mind that it was four thirty in the morning and it was still very dark. I broke out my flashlight. And I looked in horror as the cooperator was leaking fuel at an alarming rate. I nursed the machine back to the house where I grabbed my honda and then rode to work and got to work on time thankfully.

 When I got home from work I turned to figuring out just exactly what this machine's major malfunction was. Ultimately I pulled the bowl. There was a little bit of Stuff inside but nothing to write home about. I I gave it an aggressive bath of high pressure carb cleaner. I then took the Floats out. Gave it a shake and could hear some liquid. I went inside and dunked it and held it and in my horror, Watched bubbles....

 These were brand new remaining factured carbs.

 So I had my old carbs and I sourced the floats from one of them, Gave it the bubble test and it passed. So I reassembled everything. And then rode it about thirty miles to the next town for a doctor's appointment.

 It drove fine no problems no drama.

So now, since this thread is continuing. Does anybody have a line on plastic floats that I can put in this thing so that I don't have to fight these stupid little brass bastards anymore?

Sorry to hear You ran across what i was originally referring to! Unfortunately this "brass" float issue is becoming more prominent as these get up in age. Moisture can pit/rot-out the brass, solder rarely affected. Don't know of a plastic dual-linked float assembly, these were unique because of their wider stance of floats to clear the inner jet holder carb castings. Honestly though i wouldn't be too concerned about it now that You know what to look for and problem resolved. If You're handy with a soldering iron and some flux, fix the one you pulled, you'll therefor have a spare.

I have a 78  model and bought a new float from Momentum ,4623 northwest parkway,hilliard ohio 43026. Its brass but has worked fine for me so far. email help@momentum.com. also on facebook.
