I am working on my 79 kz650 and trying to get it to run. It sat for about 10-15 years before i bought it. I have soaked the carbs and rebuilt them and the accelerator pump with all new parts. It has a 4 in 1 and pod filters. the jets i put in were the biggest included in the kits, 102.5 main and 15 pilot. I can get it to run, but not with the choke all the way off and as i take the choke off, it stumbles when I give it gas. I did the recommended 1 5/8 turns out on the air screws and did the initial mechanical synchronization. I also replaced the points and it is timed well. Any ideas on what to do next?

Can you run it down the road on the choke? How does it do at full open?

I cant really run it down the road, the roads are snowy up here in Michigan, also there are several things I need to clean up or check before i take it on the road

The jetting you described is not appropriate for pods and 4 into 1... you should be running #110 mains, #17.5 pilots and the jet needle clipped on 4th slot. This has nothing to do with the bike not running as it should. The pilot circuit wasn't cleaned adequately when you had them apart. Clean the choke circuit and pilot circuit again; this time making sure all passageways are cleared.

I have already soaked the bodies overnight, what other methods should I use for cleaning pilot and choke circuits?

You removed all the internal parts before soaking right? You'll need to shoot spray carb cleaner (berrymans or similar) into every passage throughout the carb and use air pressure to blow out the ports. You might also find varnish/rust under o-rings etc. They should be replaced as well. By the way, don't get the spray carb cleaner in your eyes! When you're spraying out those ports, they tunnel all around inside the carb so you never know when the other end is pointing at your head. Yeah, from experience!:woohoo:

You need to know where each hole leads to in each circuit and if you spray in a hole you had best know where it must come out. If it doesn't you have to reclean that passageway. You also need plug some of the openings as you spray for the jet of carb cleaner to come out where it should.
