Another jetting question was created by 80G
I have a 80 z1 classic. It came out with fuel injection. Someone has put VM26 carbs on it. I have new carb manifolds, a vance and hines pro pipe, and K&N pods for it. Could any make any suggestions on what size jets that would be good. I am in KY if that makes any diffrence.
Thanks,
Matt

Kawasaki started putting VM26 carburetors on KZ900s in 1976 and used variations of the VM26 until 1980. They also put very similar VM26 carburetors on GS750/850/1000 models. How you jet YOUR VM26 carburetors depends on which of the many types you have. For instance, without going through all the boring detail of the internals, the 1976 KZ900 VM26 version had #115 main jets. The 1979 GS1000 version had #95 main jets. Obviously the internal stuff was quite a bit different and changing main jets (as well as pilot and jet needle settings) depends on which model... your set up would require about a #120 main jet for the KZ900 assembly but about a #105 for the GS1000...
Answer some questions please... do these carbs have air screws OR pilot fuel mixture screws or both???
Are these carbs accelerator pump or non accelerator pump?
What is the assembly ID mark say? (pic attached of its location) MOST Kaw assemblies will have the same ID mark at both ends but some have different marks... They are hard to see and you will need to clean the area a bit to read these numbers/letters.

Those carburetors would be from a 1976 KZ900... they come with #115 mains, 5DL31-3 jet needle, 0-6 needle jet and #17.5 pilot jets. This is the factory jetting. For rejetting for the pods, I would ONLY go with some #120 main jets as the rest of the jetting will work I think, as is. Try this and let me know!

Pitch those 26mm asap. They are sooooo restrictive. Stock 28mm are available virtually everywhere real cheap. 29mm smoothbores are definitely worth the money, you will love them. Bet you could get a whole second of the 1/4 by going to 29mm. Just pitch the 26ers. Pleasssseeeee
