Crankshaft difficult question. was created by MLMG
I am about to buy a KZ A1 crankshaft with a bad connecting rod, is it possible to get a new connecting rod?

Can it be replaced by one of klx or klr?

thank you

You should send the crank to Stan Gardner in Maine or Pearson in Ohio for a full rebuild.  It's NOT cheap, but both those guys will have good used rods to include in the rebuild, and their reputation is above reproach.

Ed the problem is Leonardo is in Uruguay so he needs to think "outside the box", also importing "used" parts is illegal in his country

Is exporting? If not, could it be claimed as new once repaired?

The easiest way to get a crankshaft would be through those who import auto parts and declare it as a car crankshaft, although this has its risks.

Anyway, I'm going to buy the crankshaft since it is very cheap, it only costs 100 dollars.

I found the bearings in Japan, but not the connecting rods.

To give you an idea, there are only eight Kawasaki A1/A2 in the entire country of Uruguay.

rods were not serviced seperate from Kawasaki, Crankshaft sold ass assy, now you can send to rebuilder to tear apart & check it then reassemble and weld, I expect this is from 1977- 1980 KZ1000 [ 1015 ] Engine ? I have a set of brand new take off connecting rods from a NOS "J" motor KZ1000 [ 903 ] engine these will fit the 1015 crank but you would have to mill .040in off block to maintain your current compression ratio, these rods were pulled from NOS new "J" crank so it could be fitted with 83/84 GPZ 1100 rods if interested I will let them go ?

If MLMG does not take the rods I’d be interested. I have a 81 J crankshaft with a bad rod. Are your 1024 numbers rods?

A KZ1000J engine has 998 ccm: 69,4 mm bore and 70 mm lift but 1,2 mm shorter rods (piston to small end rod pin position 1,2 mm lower).

Edit: Stroke/lift is 66 mm!
