Z1 bottom end and (gp)z1100 B1 head was created by Rc900
Hi folks!
I seem to have an extra old z1 bottom end, and 81 model B1 head (the one with injectors on head) . If I try to use this head with old bottom end, I guess I got to use some other pistons than z1 ones? I do have a 17 mm pin, so which models have a suitable pistons for this setup? Sorry for my lousy English....

Something to consider is that the Z1 camchain is a traditional "roller" type, and GPz's use the multi-plate "HYVO" type: so cam sprockets from the Z1 will have to be "adapted" to fit the GPz camshafts?
Something else to consider is camchain length, which may be an issue because the GPz has a fixed "block" type guide in the top of the valve cover, that press down between the two sprockets, and will definately not be suitable to have the roller type chain running on it.

AIR CORRECTOR JETS FOR VM CARBS AND ETHANOL RESISTANT VITON CHOKE PLUNGER SEAL REPLACMENT FOR ALL CLASSIC AND MODERN MOTORCYCLE CARBURETTORS

The B head will bolt straight on the early bottom end and will take the early 3 bolt cams or later GPZ 2 bolt cams with adaptor sprockets.
You will need a top idler conversion (APE) for use with the roller type camchain and remove the slipper guide from the cam cover.
The B's 4 cc larger combustion chambers will also drop the compression by an average 2 points so 10 to 1 would become 8 to 1 and unless you want to run a turbo will need either higher compression pistons to compensate or skim the head by approx 1.3mm.
The valve angles of the B head are the same as the early motors so no special pistons needed.

The parts you need is the APE CCIA and the ACS900K-2B cam chain sprockets. You have to use allen head screws in high grade 10.9 or 12.9 to attach the sprockets, because the hex screw heads will collide with the roller cam chain links!!! Later 83-84 GPz camshafts are the best in performance (higher valve lift and duration).

Thank you, Guys. There's many things now to think about. My first impression is that I'll try to find on old kind of head and do some porting for that. The B head has huge intakes which made me interested about that solution at the first place, but I'd come quite expensive as well since I should find some J model pistons and built a spacer under the block. Many things to think, still

Collecting parts for the project...
I got a set of aftermarket cams, but I do not know anything about them. I was told they're made by Russ Collins, but I do not really know about that. Anyway, there is stamped number K259 and CWC I-5 C-2 D2 on them. I guess 259 cannot be the degrees? Would that be quite "mild" duration? The lift looks to be much higher compared to stock ones...
And then I did find another set of cams with three stripes... I think I've seen these cams specs in somewhere, but cannot found them now. These are from some kz from eighties?

CWC, K259,C-2, D2 etc are just the casting codes for the blanks which were put there at the foundry .
The K259 stands for Kawasaki and is found on pretty much every Z1/Z1000 aftermarket cam..
They do not refer to grind specs.
There should be stamped or engraved markings on either the end of the cams , on the sprocket flange on on a milled flat close to the sprocket flange.
If you can locate these we may be able to identify the cam grinder and specs.
If they can't be found then comparing the lift and duration to other known cam profiles will help determine suitable timing figures.

As Zed mentioned, Russ Collins cams will be stamped near the gear flange. For example the RC370 set I bought.

Right, thank you. I did take my glasses with me and check the cams again
So there is number RC388 stamped on the cam. And seems to be some string 116C87 stamped on the cam as well...
I tried to google those a bit, and I noticed that this K259 string can be found from very many US made cams. So is it so that there is (or has been) some manufacturer who has made all the "raw" cams for different manufacturers? Like RC, Andrews, and so on?
How about those three stripe Kawasaki cams? Any idea about those ones?

Yes! Many of the cam blanks are bought from the same foundry hence the K259 etc to denote the fitment and then the "buyer" puts their own grind on them..
Here's some info on the RC388 cams lifted straight from another thread.
A high-lift "Hot Street" class cam that provides a marked increase in acceleration and torgue. Ideal for the street class racer who wants more power without the radical characteristics of a full race cam.
Total duration: 298 degree's
Lobe centers 108 degree's
Lift: .416" intake.......... .416" exhaust
Lash: .004 in........... .006 ex

Well, 298 degrees... That might be too much for semi normal street use And this lift, might need some machinery for the head to make it roll.
These three groove cams seems to be from 82 KZ1100 B2 288 degrees with .346 lift.

If I’m correct the longer duration will help smooth out idle by lowering the cranking compression. I have a set of RC388 cams. Yes the head will need to be clearanced. But they can be run with SOT. If your looking to get ride of them I’d be a buyer if the price is right. PM me.
