What do you mean getting it to crank? Is the starter turning slowly?

Just a thought, but I had the same problem when I got my 650. I had low compression in the 3rd cyclinder. Weak spark on the first coil, and the jetting wasn't right. If the bike is running well once you get it started, I would check the coils first, then have a compression check done. Compression should be over 65lbs.

I got messing with the bike today and found that the reason it would only start every so often is that the kill switch wires had a short in them. Now i got that it cranks good but if i try to turn the choke off it dies i give it time to warm up the only way i can get it to work right is with the throttle adjustment near the carbs any way of fixing this. I dont mind but i cant crank up and go i have to fiddle with it to get it right first so any help would be appreciated

Welcome Brad to KZR. I find I need to let my bike warm up for a few minutes and even longer on cold days using the choke. I start her with the choke all the way up, then start lowering the chock lever to control the revs, not letting her rev too high.
You may need to give your carbs a good cleaning at some point as well as give your engine a tune up if they haven't been done recently.
Post up a picture of your ride in the photo section as well.

that sounds like a normal thing to me, mine takes a bit for it to warm up and run right, just play with the choke and dont let it rev up too high,
my factory book says compression should be 135-205 lbs, with a 10% rnage between cyl.
