Etching Cleaner on Engine and Wheels? was created by 650Dude
I got this cleaner to clean the engine block AND the wheels on my bike pictured below. Anyone have any experience with this?

I wouldn't use that stuff. Too harsh. Some citrus based engine cleaner spray will remove oily grime without the strong acidity.

Nessism is correct - too harsh. Instructions say to wear eye protection and rubber gloves; that's because it contains acid. Ed

I have not used that particular cleaner, but in general, you have to be extraordinarily careful around bare aluminum. If the mixture is just a little too strong, or it is left in contact with the aluminum a few moments too long, the metal can be badly discolored.
I am not a fan.

Im going to test it out in a spot on the engine. I want to get some of the oxidation off without using too much elbow grease.

Yes! I learned the hard way! Stupid Me!!! Gee, I should have read the back of jug! to ad insult to injury! I forgot about these stock OEM pistons sitting in the cleaner.
4-5 hours turned them black! Alkali. Had the nicest pistons 70mm 1015cc's 12,000 miles in tolerance, tight! I did not want to glass bead them, nothing is wrong with that! I did all my pistons over the years. I just wanted to show how clean and nice they were. These are going to be an eBay item soon, nice tight pistons and barrel. Ready to install.
But don't use ZEP cleaner/degreaser on aluminum.
Oh well live and learn. I blame it on age now!
