Found this under a clump of bondo that was separating from the tank. Apparently from leaking gas :lol:

I guess it worked long enough to get it out the door :blink:

I bet that much filler would have come loose even without a leak.

That's the tank breather everyone talks about checking. Yours looks to be working well.

It was probably a pin hole. What would have been the trouble with running a drill bit in the hole, and a bit of flux and solder?

I've seen tires 'repaired' with RTV and a screw before

When I fixed that a the end of the 70's I didn't know there was ever going to be an internet for me to be ridiculed on or I'd have done a better job, like using a brass screw so it wouldn't rust

Well, at least you don't have to drill a new hole to pull that dent out. :woohoo: :whistle:

Worked for me. This tank was freshly painted, then sprung some pinhole leaks.
I put a wooden handle onto a 1/2" brass rod to use it as a big soldering iron, heated the rod cherry red with a torch, then used it just like a soldering iron. I can't remember if I used lead free solder or not, but it worked great.

As a test, I spilled some gas onto the sidewalk and tried to ignite it with the iron, and I could not get it to combust.

The solder flowed right up to the paint without damaging the paint. So I just left it silver.

I think I still have a heavy electric soldering bar somewhere, I'll have to look for it.
