1981 KZ1100 Shaft

Picked this one up in November. Had been neglected for about 10 years from what I could tell. Repairs, Maintenance and mods to date:
Rebuilt Carbs w/ new boots
Replaced mufflers with tapered shorties
New tires
Rebuilt calipers with new pads
Cleaned and re-packed Headset bearings
Disabled air-injection
Rebuilt forks, changed oil in rear shocks
New OEM levers
New 'Daytona' bars with gel grips
Replaced ignition pulse coils
Custom seat and tail cowl
Replaced tank
Painted with "Sunburst Lime" and satin clear
Refinished wheels
Next up:
Refurbishing Vetter fairing to match and adapting some KZ1000P luggage (for long road trips)

Looks great! Very sporty looking transformation.

Restored the Vetter fairing and color matched it. Wired up a harness/connector that allows me to swap the whole thing out in about 10 minutes.

Is the tailpiece custom? Bike looks sharp. A quick disconnect for the fairing also was a great move.

Yes- custom piece. I made a custom mold from a modified GS850 (I had to make it wider and longer).

With regard to handling and balance, do you feel any significant difference when riding with the Vetter vs. without it?

It's pretty light- maybe 25 lbs so it doesn't redistribute weight much. I mainly use it when I am going on long, higher speed rides as the stock set up has no wind protection. I prefer riding with it off and think it looks better as well.
