front wheel removal

Looking for different ways to remove the front wheel on a 1976 LTD 900 without having to remove the header thanks...Pete

Have to ask, why do you have to remove the Header???:blink: :blink: :blink: :blink:

Last time I removed the front wheel the pipes were off the bike & i used a jack & a 2x4 with a recessed hole where the oil plug is & going across the front of motor & frame & sticking out about 4-5 inches past the frame on each side for better stability....can't do the with the pipes on...Pete

Hang the bike from the rafters with strap style bike tie downs / Chainfall then change to straps at triple trees.
Obviously secure the back end too so it doesn't fall over

That all sounds like way too much trouble to me, but maybe it's because I have a KZ650. To remove the front wheel I simply place a bottle jack under the front of the engine with a wood block between the jack post and the engine to protect the engine. Then I just jack it up to lift the front wheel off the ground. In fact, I even removed the whole front fork assembly that way when I replaced the lower fork legs (see image below). Removing the front wheel that way is very easy. Ed

A friend of mine had bought this lifter for his Harley and it works great. Seen this lifter on evil-bay for less than 50 euros.

I do it the same as 650ed, but use a homemade engine block stand >> two 2x4s sandwiched together & attached to a 2x6 base using long deck screws. It's pretty solid with the weight of the motorcycle on it. The stand also serves a couple of other functions for the carbs & front brake.

I use my ABBA bike lift for the maintaince or wheel change and and i have the possibillty to move the bike if needed.

Scirocco, That scissor jack looks great for the price, but since I only have 2 bikes & rarely have to remove the front wheels, I think i'll try 650 eds, or Daves method...just looking for ideas , Thanks again...Pete

exactly what i did with my chopper lastnight kz750b..put the 82 750n1 air over oil forks duel disc wheel and tire....ratchet straps over rafter 6ish feet apart and couple wraps round handle bars and ratchet away

I was trying to figure out the same thing this afternoon, as my ZRX needs new tires. I have one of those scissor jacks, but the saddles do not go high enough to reach the frame with the pipe installed. So I used the jack with a block of wood, along with a track stand for the rear (no center stand), and also two ratchet straps looped over the 2x6 rafter, just for good measure. The front wheel is off now.
