Saving a '81 KZ750-E

I finally got the last of the o-rings and seals that I need ordered. I am relatively confident that I have all of the gaskets, seals, and o-rings either here or on the way now. I even picked up a tube of Kawabond 5 gasket sealer. I should be able to get the bottom end done and into the frame after this latest order gets here. :woohoo:

One of the things I need to start the top end (when I get there!) Is ring compressors. Not going to attempt hose clamps... just sayin'! Something I need to start thinking about.

You can rent them from your LAPS if you don't want to buy them.

I got the bottom end back together.

The 6 mm lower case bolts should be torqued to 87 in/lb, according to the shop manual. I verified the torque setting several times, but my torque wrench isn't clicking. I am at a tension that I do not feel comfortable going beyond, for fear of damaging case threads. It may be time for a new torque wrench. Cheaper than messing up the case threads!

One hundred percent agree with you. Nothing will ruin your day more than a stripping a bolt. Your patience will pay off. Even 87 in/lb seems high for a 6 mm. The 6 mm bolts for my 900 take 69 in/lb. What shop manual are you using? I would only trust the factory service manual. I have run into some wrong torque specs with my Clymer shop manual. Would have stripped some cam bolts if I would have used the recommendation in the Clymer on my bike.

You're gut is right. Allow your judgement to override the stupid wrench. Way too many threads are pulled out from guys blindly following some torque value in the manual when it's not critical.

FSM states a 6mm bolt should have 54 to 78 Inch pounds
