1973 Z1 project for $900. Do I do it? was created by Zoo Mob
I've got a line on a 1973 Z1. Supposedly complete, shabby repaint, lots of rust, rusty 4-1 exhaust, mag wheels (maybe Lester). Owner who got from late uncle says it was bored out. Has finned covers on the motor, etc. Carbs not pictured, but are included.

I know these can bring a ton when in good condition and complete. He wants $900. Whaddya think?

What are you waiting for? someone else to beat you to it?

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

I'm buying it tomorrow. More wondering now what I'm getting into, what general things are to look for as far as completeness, and what this thing might be worth in the sad condition it is in......I know it is more than $900.

Show him cash and see if you can get some money off asking price, any money you can save now can be put towards your restoration, good luck!

Went and Paid for it tonight. Got him down to $800. It's in rough shape, but, other than the exhaust, wheels, and airbox seems complete and original. Can't tell very well from photos, but paint seems original too. Has a bunch of aftermarket parts, most of which still have the boxes. Dyna ignition, Dresda swingarm, alphabet ram-Flo filters etc.

Don't know whether I'll try to make it run, whether I'll clean it up and sell, who knows. It will be a week or two before pickup, but she's mine.

Sorry for the crappy photos, My inspection and purchase were done in a dark driveway by headlight.

Congratulations! that's fucking awesome. Don't sell it! these bikes are so hard to find now they've all been harvested in my area. I wish I could find one for that price. It will be a lot of work but you can pick away at it over time, kind of like having a sick bike on a payment plan that you only have to pay when you feel like it. Good for you. Of course if you need the money I will gladly buy it off of you...

Judging from the oil passage stopping short of the serial number pad on the cases Id say thats the origional 73 bottom end atleast,The cases are worth what you paid for the bike. :woohoo: :woohoo:

Engine number should be close to the VIn on the frame. You can look up other date coded parts. The more original it is the more it will be worth. Don't throw anything out, even the bolts with 7's and 4's on them are worth something.
