I got a 1982 ltd100 today. It came from the original owner and has some pitting but over all its not in bad shape at all. The previous owner had put stable in the bike before parking it. I am going to change the oil and battery. My question is after flushing the fuel tank should I drain the carbs before attempting to start it? If so how is that best done.
Thanks for any help, Bob

Everytime I aquire a used bike I give it a complete tune-up and replace any parts that need it, Change spark plugs, air filter, chain oil and filter, drain gas from tank and carbs, check and adjust valves, re-torque cylinder head nuts, insure intake manifolds are not leaking, check and adjust drive chain or replace if needed, ect. Doing this takes me about a day of work but when done the bike usually starts right up and runs pretty good. You save time and money doing this because it is very time consuming trying to chase down all the little issues as they come up.

Put a little oil down the cylinders and cycle the engine a few times. Replace the control cables.

Some carbs are drained by simply removing the drain screw.
That is to say, a single purpose drain screw.
Remove the screw, whereupon fuel flows out of the float bowl.
Some other carbs have a dual purpose drain screw.
When tight, the overflow circuit functions.
When loosened (not removed), the drain functions.
Fuel exits from nipple on bottom of float bowl.
Good Fortune!

Yes, via the drain screw.turtleescape wrote: ...1982 ltd100...previous owner had put stable in the bike before parking it...after flushing the fuel tank should I drain the carbs before attempting to start it? If so how is that best done....
