Time to post a thread on my project. I got this KZ900 in 2008 and have slowly been moving forward on it. I did notice when I bought it that the build date was 9-76, and the VIN indicates that it was one of the last 150 or so 900's ever made. I can't afford one of the first 900's, so one of the last will have to do!
The parents wouldn't let me get a used KZ900 for $1200 when I was 17, but I got this one for $1200 26 years later. The bike at time of purchase had a mish-mash of parts, 1977 LTD tank and rear fender, 1979 LTD side cover etc. The plan was to bring it back closer to original. Not a restoration, but a nice clean bike that looked basically period correct. I had the frame, swingarm, and brackets powdercoated at the place I work, and was going to re-ring the engine. I wound up having Redline Cycle do a complete top-end with valve job.
For paint I decided to go with the original 1976 Diamond Brown, and got a small batch from Ralph at Paintworkz. Decals were from reproductiondecals.com. A local painter agreed to do the paint work for me. He does very good work, and the final result is stunning. More pics to follow...............

Here are a few more "before" pictures.........
I was also able to carefully remove the VIN sticker, but I'm not sure exactly how to reapply it. I don't think it would withstand another removal, so I'll have to do it right the first time.
